I bought some short pile fur at the fabric store a while ago in hopes of being able to use it instead of fleece to sew a tunnel. I figured that since shearling fur is used in the inside of commercial cuddle cups that they sell in chain pet stores (and that I've seen pictures many times on this site), a short pile fur (about the same pile height as the shearling) would be safe. But some concerns were raised that he would chew it (which I had assumed he would) and it might cause him digestive problems. It's only a 1/4 - 1/2 inch pile, so I was hoping for a little more input on that. Is a short pile fur safe to use? |

Pigs have the potential to chew on about anything you put in their cage. Some get curious and nibble while others try to devour. You could make a tunnel and try it out. If he starts eating it, you could remove it. |

I expected him to chew at it, I just wondered if doing so could potentially be harmful to him. I can see how a longer pile fur could cause digestive problems, but with such a short pile fur I wasn't sure if the same risks applied. Think it's safe enough to give it a try and assume a few nibbles won't harm? |
