Neutral : -1 (+0/-1) So we were cleaning Cyndi's Cage, I did my research on bedding, turns out I had PINE. So we removed it as soon as we could from her cage, washed it out, shook and wiped down everything that had bedding on it.. I was checking out inside the top part of her hidey house... There is a nail sticking out!! So, if thats not bad enough, I went to pull the hidey apart so if I could get the nails out, maybe she could chew it until I can get her hay in a few days.. well that didn't happen because there was glue on the inside of the house I don't understand people, I thought everything was ok, so for now, we put fleece down ( a towel and then my favorite fleece blanket caue I feel bad, and I had a usps box, I made that up, and folded the top flap down so she can still "hide" for now. I was going to break off another piece of the wood, turns out there is this little tiny bug crawling.. so I smooshed it and threw her whole hidey and said screw it. What a day. I'm so furious, I don't even know what to do right now. But on the other hand, positive note- we went looking at stores for supplies for a C&C cage. we found the grids, (right kind) and no coroplast... so, we found this sheet that had the same waterproof outing, the only difference it has foam in the middle, so we will try that and let everyone know how that goes!! |

I'm guessing that there is a bigger story behind what I am reading in this post. You're kind-of putting your ideas everywhere, and I don't understand so well. I sense a problem with the hidey manufacturers... Well, I hope everything goes well with your c&c, piggie, and entire day (starting tomorrow)! |

Sorry I was just very angry my brain was everywhere at the moment. I'm guessing someone made her hidey house. I just got her from someone else, this lady said her hidey was store bought but it looked more like someone slapped it together. When I picked it up ( which I do everyday but didn't bother looking in the top of it) there was a nail, glue and it was just a dirty dirty toy for her to be sitting in. She likes to eat everything.. I was just afraid because she could have gotten very hurt. But now she'll be happier with a different hidey. I'm not sure how long she had that otherone anyway, I wasn't suspecting nails and glue though. |

Small cardboard boxes make great hidies for piggies. Bent grids with fabric over them or corner "tents" are good bets for their comfort. Yes, the things you buy are not well made in general, but you can make safe, cozy things for not a lot of money. |

I know she is really loving this box and part of an old stocking I made up, I'm thinking about getting her a pigloo or an edible hay tunnel, I know she'll chew the edges of the pigloo though though. As long as she's happy =-) |

A few days? Pigs should have hay available 24/7, and it serves a bigger purpose than just for their chewing needs - it helps maintain a healthy gut. If you haven't already, please make getting her grass hay your first order of business. |

I second the vote for cardboard boxes. I have pigloos as well but they love the cardboard boxes with holes cut in the sides. They are like kids - they'd rather play with the box than the toys! : ) |

thats cute, yeah, I put 2 boxes in there now, because I got her a friend and everything, and they fight over which one they want to use, there are 2- and if Cyndi is in one, then Sativa runs in there and Cyndi rumbles... I'm getting bigger cage, right now I have 2x4 grid.. we are going to get a 2x5 off this site... Our sign store only has the small coroplast signs and they want 10 for it... |

It really makes no difference if the base is duct taped together particularly if you are using fleece and towels as bedding. The c&c cages are sturdy enough when all put together but they will never be 'portable' so it doesn't really matter if the base is a little flimsy...although it really shouldn't be with enough duct tape. The base of my girl's cage is made of a few pieces and it's fine. |
