One friend of mine who has a lot of guinea pigs, told me to get of the cage all of the hideys, small houses etc, at list for one or two months, so my two girls will stop of being afraid. Inside their cage (2.20m x 0.70cm) I have 8 different places (hideys). Is that stressfull for my girls, or they feel safer if they have a lot of places to hide? (no problem with space, they have a runaway to play). Now they are 5 months old, and the still afraid of people. Our home is a verry quiet house, no stess or loud voices. Also, in a month, I will adopt a 2 month old female guinea. Is that ok, with the 8 hideys, or its not neccesary? (pls forgive my english)... |

8 hidey huts probably isn't necessary, but you should have 1 for each pig, so they all have places to hide. If you have one for each pig, you can replace the other hideys with tunnels, which they like to play in. |

Taking out the hideys will not make them less scared. The more places they have to hide in, the safer they will feel. It's good to have one per pig plus an extra. So you're doing just fine as long as the hideys aren't taking up so much space that the pigs don't have room to run around. And don't forget to quarantine the new girl! |

Cavies are prey animals. There will be some who will always run no matter the reason. They need a place to feel safe and secure. It's never a good idea to remove hidey houses from the cage. |

Aeavvw, I am froom Heraklion Crete Greece, and the girl which I know, she lives in Athens, and we are friends, so I will go there to bring home the new girl. Where are you from? If you are close to Athens, I will tell her, and you connect with her if you want a pig for adoption. |
