Everything Planned out

Ok So I have been marking down how much everything I want for my 2 new guinea pigs. Im getting them by mid August So it gives me time to stack up. Ive Totaled up my pay to be 510 and all of it will go to them

164 $ - my C&C 2x4 cage
55 $ - my adoptions
116 $ - K&M pellets and hay.
Im planning on getting 2 kinds of pellets since one of my piggies will be a 6 week old and then I have the mother who is over 6 months.
So im planning on getting Timothy Pellets (25lb) And Alfalfa Pellets (10lbs)

Now the Hay I got was not the one i really wanted but seeing how She doesnt have timothy hay I decided to stick with Orchard Grass hay the 35lb.

Next is the water bottle which is the water buddy which is almost 20 $.

So far am I on a right track ? I would really appreciate opinions and suggestions thank you .

Re: Everything Planned out

You don't really need to get the two kinds of pellets. Get the timothy based ones for both pigs and supplement the younger pig with higher calcium veggies like parsley. That will save you a little money. The hay is fine, any grass hay can be fed. My pigs prefer KM's bluegrass.

A 2x4 should cost no where near $164. Most grids are no more than $20-25 a box and coroplast is usually between $20-25 for a full 4'x8' sheet.

$20 bucks for a water bottle, that seems like a rediculous price. I buy water bottles for about $4 and they don't leak.

Re: Everything Planned out

I believe that they are ordering the cage from C&C cages. If that is the case, you have to pay the extra for shipping also. It can get quite expensive. Definately would be a lot cheaper and easier to make it yourself.

She is out of bluegrass (which is what we usually get) so I ordered the orchard grass instead since my pigs like Oxbow's orchard grass. My pigs seem to like the KM's orchard grass just as much and I'm sure your new pigs will be happy with it as well.

Just wondering, why is your C&C going to cost $165? Is that for just the cage, or is that including accessories like hideys and such? If you're ordering it, honestly I would try to find the supplies near you first. It'll cost you about $30-$40

Re: Everything Planned out

I just looked it up and a 2x4 cage from here is only $88 with shipping. I don't understand the high cost for the cage either now.

I just bought some new grids for $14.99 and got a couple sheets of coroplast for $12 a sheet near me.

Re: Everything Planned out

The $88 is including shipping. The cage alone is only $62. That what the website says. I paid $62 because she lives near me and I picked it up at her house. I don't know why the shipping would be different than the website says.

Have you tried this? Where? I had a hard time finding coroplast for a little while too but ended up finding some a few miles from my house for $20. For the first few months I used linoleum. A roll of scrap from Home Depot for $5. It wasn't easy to work with since it's more flexible, but I punched holes in it and zip tied it to the grids to make sides. Just some thoughts because, not to try to take business away from Sue, it just seems silly to spend that much money if you don't have to.

Re: Everything Planned out

$164 is very pricey for a C&C cage. If you call around I'm sure you can get a sheet of Coroplast for $15-$30. I called around and one place wanted $35 while the other wanted $20! Even though the $20 one only came in white it still is a lot cheaper. You can also get the grids at Walmart, Target, and Bed, bath and beyond. I got mine at BB&B for $15. The accessories shouldn't be that much money depending on what you're thinking of getting and where you're getting those accessories from. Pigloos are usually around $5 each, you can get a food bowl for around $2, chew blocks for $3-$4 etc.

Like Ly suggested, i think you should just buy the timothy based pellets and feed your younger pig some high calcium veggies such as kale or parsley instead on buying more pellets since they can be costly.

$20 for a water bottle? I got mine for about $5 and it doesn't leak at all. $20 is a lot of money for just a water bottle!

Good choice on adopting!

Like I said before I made a mistake on the price of the cage is 88 dollars. I am buying the timothy based pellets only and going to feed the baby those type of vegetables

Re: Everything Planned out

The Water Buddy bottles are close to $20, but for me it was a great decision. No leaks, easier to clean, no backwash so the water stays fresh and the bottle does not have to be thoroughly cleaned as often. They are also totally quiet. I would definitely recommend them. Compared to how much I spend on other things for the pigs, an extra $10-15 for a water bottle is not very significant.
