Has anyone made a fabric canopy?

I was thinking of a light fabric so as to let the light in. I was thinking of using the bent grids with the book covers on them, like I saw in the Hot Tips! forum here:

Here's my idea: We have retail fixture stores her that sell skinny mini grid panels, I think they are 5"x5". I was thinking I could attach maybe four of them together with some sort of support underneath - I am stuck on this part...my husband thought maybe a flat piece of wood about 1/4" think with drilled holes in it to attach to the bottom of each piece of coroplast. Alton is 2.5 lbs, so I want to be sure he doesn't collapse the ramp. The attaching the covered bent grids to the top. Good idea? Safe?
