Question Turning a ramp into a tunnel? help!

I have a 2 level cage but one of my piggies is too nervous to go up the ramp.
I've heard that she'd feel safer if it was more of a tunnel.

Any tips on how best to turn it into a tunnel?

Hlpe please!

Thanks.x

Can you describe your current ramp? What it is made out of? How is it attached?

Hi,
it's a wooden ramp about 13cm wide and 50cm long. attached at the top by 2 hooks which allow you to remove the ramp if necessary.

Hope you can help!

Re: Turning a ramp into a tunnel? help!

The first thing I would do is to cover it with something. Pigs can't get a good grip on wood. Anything with some texture will do (fabric, rubber, whatever you can find).

Then put sides on it (and a top if it's easy to do). I use coroplast sides, but you could use wood as well.

If you have a hidey with a flat top, I would put the ramp so it lands on top of the hidey. That way it will be at a shallow angle. Plus it doesn't take up floor space this way.

Hmmm...I am adding a second level soon too and was thinking about the ramps also.

I have seen pictures where someone used a black hose, I am hoping they reply. I went to Home Depot, but couldn't find a hose like that.

I ended up getting a sheet of sticky back plastic, fixing it to a sheet of card (leaving about 4 inches of plastic used either side) rolled the card into a half pipe, then fixed it to the ramp using the unused plastic to attach to the underside of the ramp. Does that make sense?
I'll send photos if I get a chance.

Re: Turning a ramp into a tunnel? help!

As long as the plastic has enough grip, that should work much better. It will still probably take some time for them to get used to it, but I bet they will.

They've been running up and down all day! Very adventurous for 14 week old babies!
