are those plastic pigloos really necessary? or can i use something from home that would be MUCH cheaper? I already bought 2 pigloos for my 2 girls i'm getting monday but i started thinking about it and wondered if i had something around here that i could use and take those back... |

There are lots of choices when it comes to hideys-- No reason they have to be the "pigloo" type at all! Personally, my pigs don't have those at all. Instead, mine have a variety of beds and cozies, plus two grids, each bent at a right angle, and then covered with a pillow-case-style cover I sewed. You could also use a fabric book cover (like for textbooks), a piece of fleece, etc to cover the bent grids. |

Small, clean cardboard boxes (with little or no printing on them) are one of my guys favorite things. I just cut an opening and there you go. They do have to be replaced, as they get dirty, chewed, peed on ect., but they are mostly free. |

I use empty cereal boxes. My boars love charging through them. |

You can also cut an opening in a large bowl that you can get for a 1.00 at a dallor store or a dish tub that is also a 1.00 and cut 1- 2 openings in them for hideys, That is what I did. I also have 2 Igloo hideys, but my piggies don't use them they liked the dish tubs better for some reason. |

Just an Idea: you could use an empty icecream container and put it upside down the cut a hole in it for a door... |

I just use fleece baby blankets looped through the side of the cage as tents. They love them and they're warm. If they get hot they just hang their butts out . It's really cute. |

For my guinea pig I just took a shoe box and cut two holes in it. One on the right side of a long side and on on the left side of one of the short sides. Good Luck! |
