Water bottles don't seem to be working.

I'm getting really frustrated with water bottles ... the first one I had was a pretty cheap looking one that came free with a cage. I noticed my babies weren't drinking from it so I ran my finger across the end to see if any water came out and it didn't. I tried poking, rolling, everything. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.
Today I gave up and bought a new Rotastack bottle, but I'm having the same problem. The water flows fine when I first fill it and attach it to the cage, but I've just checked it and I can't get any water from it again.

Am I doing something wrong?

I would highly recommend the Water Buddy bottles. There is no little ball but rather a lever. They don't leak, there is no backwash so the water stays clean, and they are easy to clean when needed. Pigs learn to use them very quickly. They are available online and in some stores.

Small pet water bottle with no-drip, no-leak, sanitary features

Is this what you are talking about? Where does the water come out?

Yes, that's the one. They come in different sizes. The place where the water comes out is in the back in that photo (you can see a little metal thing on the inside far side of the bottle). If you find another photo it will be much more obvious.

Yes it is. The pig pushes the little lever and the water comes out.

theres also some "Super pet" branded glass bottles at petno. They have double bearings. My pigs LOVE that one now. It always drains first and the other bottle gets largely ignored. Its pretty nice too because it has a smaller spout which my little pig appreciates.
