Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Both of my pigs each have one of those tiki-hut hideys that are made of alfalfa and honey. It has the grass top on there too. At first, they liked chewing on the huts, but hardly ever do that anymore. They also took to chewing the roof from the inside, and now they are falling apart. I'm thinking that it's time for new hideys, but I'm sure I've read on here that the huts they have are not the best for them. What are your opinions of the different types of huts? What does everyone use? The pigloos seem to be popular, but my concern there is that my pigs will not feel completely safe. When they get startled or when they want to sleep, they curl up inside their huts. If you can see through the pigloos, will they feel as safe? I don't want a couple of grouchy, stressed out pigs. Are pigloos the way to go, or is there a better idea? |

I bought a plastic wash bin dish tub and cut an opening in them and I have pigloos but my piggies use the dish tub with cut out hole more. I have also used a small cardboard box which one of my piggies loves it and he doesn't chew on it but he does chase the other piggies away if they are chewing on it. |

I've heard those tiki huts arn't good for them. Pigloos are used alot, but sometimes pigs can get stuck in them. I use a all wood house. |

I have noticed that my girls prefer 12 pack soda boxes They are their total favorite spot to hide and sleep. I put in a scrap of fleece in it for a blanket for them and change out the box every few days. |

Those huts are bad news. Pigs don't need honey and the other crap they are made with. The alfalfa is ok but the rest of the ingredients aren't. Please replace them with something non-edible. The same goes for the edible logs. They are just low quality garbage. Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 06-08-09 at 01:41 pm. |

Tiki-Huts and the logs are bad for them. I'm sure you've already heard and will remove them as soon as possible. I have one of those puzzle box ones. Link: http://www.wonderrodent.com/images/rnplastic.jpg Good Luck! |

I have two pigloos that I use for both of mine. They feel safe in them. |

My piggies favorite hidey is just a piece of fleece attached to the top of their cage and falling down like a tent. |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I will have to try a few of them out to see what my pigs like the best. |

The hands-dopwn favourites for my boys (I have 4 boars) are their "bent grid" hideys. cheap, easy, and cute. I bent a couple grids at right angles, then sewed pillow-case-type covers for them. (you could also just use a stretchy book cover). With multiple boars, I feel it's safer to have a hidey with more than one way in and out, to prevent someone getting cornered. |

My pigs also favor the 'bent grid' tunnels for hidey places. We bend two grids, attach them together with zip ties and then cut a scrap piece of fleece to cover it and clip them on with those black paper clips. I really like them because they're easy to clean and I can change their colors whenever I get new fleece scraps. |

I use one of those extra large pigloos so they can be together, and a fabric tunnel they can crawl through, that attaches to the side of the cage. Geez, those huts are like $20, I feel bad for anyone who wasted that money on one. |

I plan on using the bent grid huts as well for my future piggies. But I do have a question for those who use them...Do you put fabric under the hut as well so the piggies have something to snuggle in? |

I've done both. I originally had fleece on both sides, then lost some of my scraps and didn't replace them for a while, then went out and got more so my newly adopted baby couldn't get to the grids. I don't think my pig noticed the difference, but I bet some would. I know mine like a little bit of the fleece to hang over into the entrances so they have something to poke their head out of and run through. |

My guineas have pigloos - since I seem to always get them when a new rescue comes in (gotta love free stuff!). My latest rescue didn't know what to make of the pigloo, and never used it, so I put a ferret hammock low enough so if she jumped on it she couldn't get hurt if she fell and high enough she can go under it - she loves it! |

I use cardboard boxes typically though I cut one or two holes in them and Hippie is happy. I'd try different ones to see what you pigs like best. Good luck. |

I use pigloos and cover them with fleece to make the pigs feel more secure. If you can't use fleece I would recomend getting a darker colored pigloo; The blue ones are pretty hard to see through. |

I use the top off of a couple of old cat litter boxes. I also have a couple of made by zip tying 3 grids together. Put a towel or fleece over top and a bed over the grid on the bottom. Both of these are prefered by mine over the bought hidey. |

I think pigloos work the best. |
