Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I've bought 5 water bottles over the past 3 months and all but one of them ended up leaking badly! So badly in fact that I've ended up putting dishes under them to catch the drips and they fill up so fast that the pigs are just ignoring the bottles now and drinking from the dishes!! I've searched on the forum here and found that people seem to like the water buddy water bottle. But of course I can't order it in Canada. The last two that I bought were $12 dollars each and are not the ball type but have a nub that is spring loaded into the spout of the bottle. One of them is working fine but the other is leaking like crazy. Why am I having such an issue with this!? I had asked when I bought these last two if I could return them if they leaked. So of course they didn't start to leak until I was confidant that they were not going to leak. (Sheesh Murphy gimme a break... )Any ideas? I'm getting very tired of spending money on water bottles. |

That's odd, as far as water bottles go, I have a couple of these, All Living Things® Water Bottles for Small Animals - Feeders & Waterers - Small Pet - PetSmart I know I'm boycotting Petsmart but those are the ones I have. Hope I can help! |

These bottles are great! 12 oz. Chew Proof Water Bottle - Feeders & Waterers - Small Pet - PetSmart 1) Made of glass 2) The spout can be removed from the cap for thorough cleaning 3) Never leaks if you make sure the spout is tightly in place (easy to adjust). 4) I feel glass stays cleaner than plastic, because it's non-porous. 5) Cute little duckies inside so you can quickly see the water level. 6) Some reviews on Petsmart said the caps rusted, but I've had mine for 5 months with no problems. 7) It has a flat side, so it sits snug against the cage. As you can tell I'm a huge fan! haha |

All Living Things® Flip Top Water Bottle - Feeders & Waterers - Small Pet - PetSmart These are the type that I use. They don't leak, but Mogwai & Sarge are both sloppy drinkers. I've had them for a few months now, I think. |

I use the same one as WICavy. Granted I haven't had it too long but I like it a lot better than the plastic one I was using before! It's very securely attached to the cage which makes me more comfortable, and I swear my piggy drinks more water with this bottle than he did with his old one. Wish I could remember the brand on the old one I had... some crappy plastic one from Petco that attached with one flimsy wire. Garbage! Anywho yes, this one's a keeper. Plus it has a ducky in it and duckies are awesome. |

Thanks so much for your help. I think I'll try the one with the duck (sounds cute). The one that Piggy 1928 recommended was actually the first one that I had tried. I had forgotten about that one. It didn't leak but the mechanism was so strong that even I had a hard time triggering it to get the water out. Thanks also for the link to Flower Town Chincillas. There seem to be so few places to order from that are based in Canada. Weird.. canucks have pets too .Oh and Gooberific, I love that you named one of your pigs "Mogwai". I got such a laugh out of that. I wish I'd thought of it myself when naming my last pig. Last edited by Somanypets; 03-10-09 at 08:43 pm. Reason: adding comment |

Could your pig be playing with the bottle and making a mess? Some pigs do that. Sometimes replacing the washer inside helps. |

Here's the link to the bottle I have: Super Pet Flat Bac' Water Bottles - Feeders & Waterers - Small Pet - PetSmart I realize what you say about Petstores but I get all my supplies from Petsmart so don't slam me or yell at me. |

I found a link to one that is similar to the one I'm using at the moment. Marchioro Flip-Top Water Bottle - Feeders & Waterers - Small Pet - PetSmart I didn't get it at petsmart though. I've seen them use the bottle so I'm sure that the pigs aren't playing with them. As soon as I fill it.. it starts to leak. After mucking around with it for awhile and getting it to stop, all it takes it a piggie going for a drink and the water is practicly running out of the bottle. Granted of the two of these bottles that I have only one of them is actually leaking. Albeit badly. I probably just got a bum bottle. After buying so many bottles in such a short time my frustration level was low. With so many of you recommending that one with the duck, I will try one of them. Here goes bottle number 6.. |

I wanted to get some of those glass water bottles because I could put them in the dishwasher, but I am afraid something might happen, and the bottle may fall and break- exposing my piggies to broken glass. |

Then again maybe I'm giving them too much credit. It isn't like there has never been a company to make a potentially dangerous product. LOL. (is it ok to use "LOL"?) Last edited by Somanypets; 03-10-09 at 10:32 pm. Reason: getting rid of smilie |

I've had a problem with waterbottles too but I recognized my problem, if your waterbottle hang the same way mine do in the cage. Mine hang on the outsideof the cage, it rests against one of the horizontal bars and it kept upright by a U-shaped wire that runs around the bottle. If so, then check and see if the U-shaped is putting any sort of pressure on the bottle, because if its a plastic bottle the pressure could be forcing the water out of the bottle. |

The attachment is a screw-on-type-thingy that pinches the wires of the cage. I wish it was just a matter of the attachment. *sigh* but thanks tehdoc809. |

I had the flat-backs with the duckies. They were okay, but the mounting brackets cracked, so I couldn't figure out how to get past that and just bought the kind I have now instead. |

I hope you find something that'll work for your pigs! Oh and about them breaking; I was concerned about that too, but I just hook mine on the outside of the cage. They've never knocked them done (and my boy is aggressive with his). I think if they fell on a hard floor, they could potentially break. Also, when I first got mine I was concerned about them breaking when I clean them. I thought after cleaning them with hot water I couldn't fill them up with cold water. But I was wrong. They are a very thick glass. When I use to have rabbits, I only had plastic bottles, and I hated every one of them. So when I was deciding what to get for my pigs, I was happy to hear there were glass ones. They were my "splurge" purchase. |

If you get the glass ones, can you wash them in the dishwasher? |
