cleaning wood hideys.

Feel free to move this if you think it should be in the accessories section but I figured more people would see it up here.

I have a wooden hidey that I made from scrap wood and I believe it is pine. She has a tendency to pee on/in it when she is out for floor time so it is getting kind of gross. She also likes to pull it around her cage so it is getting chewed up.

I don't remember which thread but I remember seeing something about baking wood hideys in the oven on low. But what constitutes "low" and for how long? Should I scrub it first with soap then put it in the oven to dry it? I don't want it to warp. She loves this thing and the last thing I want to do is destroy it. But it needs some cleaning!

Re: cleaning wood hideys.

Lightly sand it down first then a light rub with a wet hand towel should do then bake it at 200-220 degrees for like 30 minutes should be good.

Re: cleaning wood hideys.

I have a wooden hidey that is dyed with vegetable dye. I usuallt just spray it lightly with vinegar and water (I have a full spray bottle I keep handy), wipe it down, and let it dry on a paper towel. Seems to work pretty well, but be careful. those veggie dyes leech onto whatever it touches when wet!

Since mine is homemade it doesn't have any dyes.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: cleaning wood hideys.

Please in the future, put your questions in the appropriate forum for the question. Just because this forum may get more "traffic" doesn't mean that members can just post whatever here. We have different categories for a reason. And it makes less moving that I have to do. Thanks.
