litter box question

My piggies need a new litter box, one of the ones they have looks dingy and the other i don't like the way it attaches to the cage. I kind of got it just because it was all I could find in a time crunch. I was looking around online for a new litter box and I came across this one:
All Living Things&reg Deluxe Scatterless Litter Pan for Rabbits & Ferrets - Litter Training - PetSmart
I remember seeing it when I first got my piggies but decided on
All Living Things&reg Lock-N-Litter Pan for Rabbits & Ferrets - Litter Training - PetSmart

The first one I linked, isn't the metal bars like that dangerous for the piggies?
I know its not advertised for piggies but none of them really are.

Re: litter box question

I would definitely not go with the one with the wires.

My boys use cheap blue cat pans from wal-mart that cost a whopping $1.98. They're about 3" high, which is an easy hop for them, though (I've seen them jump over their tunnels and completely clear it, or ignore the door I cut for them to get into their kitchen area and just jump the 6" coroplast wall to land in their litter box. I guess they really have to 'go' sometimes.). They also have a brick that, when they feel lazy, they walk up onto that and then into their box. (I have two boxes separated by a brick in my 1x2 kitchen area)

Re: litter box question

The first one would be dangerous to their feet, yes. Unfortuantely, many products on the market aren't safe for pigs, even if they claim to be.

Re: litter box question

I would suggest either the cat pan idea which I have used in the past but as a hay area.

Or

One of these two litter pans-
Super Pet Litter Pan Hi-Bac - Ferret.com
Marshall Litter Pan for Ferrets Lock-On 14x14x9 - Ferret.com

The second one will take up one entire grid space of 14x14 so unless you have a really big cage, it may take up too much space.

Also I tend to avoid buying anything from stores like PetStupid or PetNotSoSmart. All you are doing when buying from them is supporting the sales of live animals. Ferret.com does not sell live animals and their products so far have been pretty good.
