Hey guys, My cage is made of wood and my piggies like to chew on the sides. They have plenty of hay and other toys but they seem to really enjoy the wood. Do you think this can hurt them, splinters seem dangerous. Ive heard of people giving paper balls as toys so to remedy the situation I gave them a piece of balled up paper to chew on which seems to do the trick but I really am not sure about how safe it is. Any thoughts? |

What kind of wood is it and has it been treated. I think you need to worry more about paints and stains than the wood itself. I know some pig hidey houses are made out of wood. |

What type of bedding do you use and is the wood protected from urine? You might want to consider making a coroplast tray to fit inside the wood using instructions from this site. Local sign stores often carry the material by the sheet and it's very easy to work with. You could also consider lining the wood with a tarp or a vinyl shower curtain to protect it from moisture. |

I saw on another thread but I don't really know if it's true, but it seems very logical. Their solution is to use white computer paper crumpled up because it doesn't have any dyes. I hope this is true because my pigs really don't care for paper balls. Jess |
