Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Hello, I am about to be the proud owner of two female cavies in May. I can't pick them up now since I have final exams to prepare for and my mother says I need to study for that first before I get them. I have done at least 4 months of research on the care of guinea pigs and bought the book The Proper Care of Guinea Pigs by Peter Gurney. But I still face a dillemma. I don't know what size pet carrier I should get for them!! I looked at the one at CavySpirit, but it's kinda expensive; I've gone to petco but they have these small fabric carriers that I think would frighten the poor things, plus they're not big enough to carry two guinea pigs comfortably! I think the Take me Home Travel Home carrier looks promising ( http://www.pet-shop.net/html/gpcarrier.html ) but it's still kinda tiny. Does anyone know of any good affordable carriers for two guinea pigs? Bunny carriers are expensive, and right now a card board box with holes and some bedding in the bottom looks promising, but I'm still open to new ideas that might be out there. Thanks M. Piggy |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I think I have something similar to the take me home travel carrier. It usually depends how long the trip is I guess. I use them for short trips, sometimes cleaning cages, but that's about it. I started using a small version of a laundry basket with handles, it's higher and only about 50% more space in it, but it still works just fine. If you think it would be too small, you can go for a pretty big laundry basket, and that would probably work. But I use my carriers a lot. I use them for cage cleaning, taking them upstairs (They reside in our finished basement that has heat, a/c, etc. and everybody goes there) taking them to the vets, and once I took my pig to the pet store when I got hay, but I don't plan on doing that again. |

I'm getting ready to move from Texas to Ohio. Would the carrier above provide sufficient ventilation and space for one pig? |

Cobalt, make a mini c and c cage! It'll work great. You can use it for travel. A cat carrier will be the best to transport pigs in. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I just use a cat carrier. It works perfect. Just put some hay and water..and maybe a towel or bedding and your're all set. (That's what I do) |

I used a sterlite container I got at Wal-Mart. I took a piece of coroplast and used zip ties to attach it. I put contact paper on it to make it look better. I put a towel in the bottom and some hay and we are set. For longer trips, like when we got Luna, it is easy to attach a waterbottle because of the holes. |

I have one piggy so i just use a New York Dog dog carrier ( she comes just about everywhere with me :-D ) but i think a laundry basket would work great for 2 pigs |

I should clarify on my carrier since it is not clear from the picture, it is only big enough for one pig. Maybe two if it is a short trip. I use it to take them to the vet. |

there is one on petfoodirect for 18.99, it is a cat carrier, about the size of 1.5x1 c&c grid cage. it has a thing where you can lock it in with a seatbelt, and its got storage on top, etc. color choice available! |

you could probably use a cat or dog carrier, plus with a dog carrier you could choose what size you want |

just a question, in a 24x18 sized carrier, how long can the pigs stay in it? there will be two pigs in the carrier, assume there is always lots of water, hay, and pellets. the bottom will be lined with towels/fleece for softness and burrowing in. |
