Careless Pruned the users

I've gone through and deleted basically all user accounts who never confirmed their registrations. I probably should have done this a long time ago and will do this more periodically. We just had a rash of spammers try to register and some got through.

I am banning any email address from @web.de and any email address ending in .ru

Over 750 accounts were deleted.

Re: Pruned the users

Thanks T - one of their thorns got into one of my threads! (and thanks for removing it!)

Thought it felt a bit lighter around here!

Re: Pruned the users

I saw a few disturbing spammers, but they were quickly caught and taken care of. Hopefully this will stop them from causing more problems.

Re: Pruned the users

Sounds like a royal pain in the bum. Wonder if some of them are automated registrations?

Re: Pruned the users

I'm going to be instituting a few new registration techniques to prevent bot registrations after I upgrade. But so far, I don't think the registrations were bots.

Re: Pruned the users

We are having a HUGE influx of spammers at the moment. In the last couple of days I have deleted/banned at least 3-4. Two of them I just did today.

If you see a spam message on the forum please click the "Report Post" icon in the upper right hand corner of the post (white triangle with red outline with an ! in the center) to report it to the mods. Do not PM any specific mod about the spam. We will get to it quicker if it's reported as we all get an email and a post about it in our manager forum. This way the first mod on the scene can take care of it quickly.

Do not reply to the spam as this will only clutter up the threads. Any replies to the spam message will be deleted along with the spam and if you wrote something useful in your post it may get deleted too.

I recommend you not click on any links in a spam post. It may take you to a virus infected or adult site. At the best you will likely get inundated by pop-ups and have to clear all cookies from your computer to get rid of them.

Thank you to all those members who have been reporting the spam for us to clear out.

Re: Pruned the users

I've reported spam twice today, the first one I actually clicked the link out of curiosity, and it was porn. I used the report post function, the first time though, I got a weird error message, but I think it did get through since it won't let me send it again in less than a minute. The second time I reported spam today seemed fine, it took me right back to the thread.

Re: Pruned the users

I just saw this now, but a few hours ago, I PMed T with the link to a spammer. I'll remember to report them next time.

Re: Pruned the users

May I ask what a spam post will be, or looks like so I know? Is it like a real question from someone? Thank you, I just want to know what to look for.

Re: Pruned the users

Spam would be like an advertisement. I've seen people join and advertise links to cheap drugs, porn links, and other stuff that definately is out of the ordinary and doesn't belong on the forum.

Re: Pruned the users

I have reported two spammers to T in the last two days - they were obviously nothing to do with guinea pigs, and included a link to their site.

If I see anymore, I'll use the reporting post function - I had no idea what that red triangle was for before!

Re: Pruned the users

Yes, using the report post function is easier for everybody.

I will soon be instituting some changes for brand new members. Should cut down on spam.

Re: Pruned the users

Good! I'm used to annyoing spammy people. On a fourm that i'm on they get tons of spam, all in ome fourm catagory; New Dolls (Beautiful creatures, the admin is poetic) It gets alot of stuff like Wedding Vow ads, Pronography ads, ect., Usually that post is edited and locked. Sometimes the user is automated too.

I have'nt seen anything like those spammers-yet.
