    squeaky, squeaky, squeaky

Hi, all. I'm brand new here but not exactly new to piggies. I've recently acquired two little piggies (not a bonded pair at the time): Leah and Smore. I had piggies for years when I was a child and a teen. I've never encountered this before, so I was hoping someone could help me.

Leah is a sweetheart -- loves to be held and pet. Smore is a little more skittish, but she's doing great, too. However -- Leah has never said a single piggy word in all the time we've had her. Not a peep. Smore is extremely chatty -- she rumbles and purrs and chirps. She even squeals with excitement when she sees me coming with her morning and evening veggies and popcorns when I refill their timothy. So even though she's shy, she's vocal and energetic. Leah popcorns and tears around the cage, too, and she's very curious about the world around her. In fact, I suspect she's extremely intelligent. We had our window open for the first time this summer (105 degree temps don't lend themselves to open windows), and she stood next to the window and just sniffed and sniffed and sniffed -- even got on her hind legs and sniffed.

At first I thought her silence was because she wasn't settled in yet, but I think she's thoroughly settled now. Then I worried she wasn't happy, but judging by the amount of tearing around and popcorning she does, I find that hard to believe. So ... what am I missing? Why is my piggy not talking? I've never ever had a silent piggy. If anything, most of my piggies have been so chatty it bordered on annoying (this would be Smore -- she's even started squealing when someone walks through the room with a potato chip bag -- guess it rattles like her food bag? ).

(On a side note -- we've so far been unable to locate the cubes to build a cage. We're really happy with the habitat we have for them, but we wanted cubes to build an outdoor play area for when the weather is nice. We've checked Walmart and Target. Any ideas? Online is fine!)

Walmart has the cubes of the right size, or if they don't, you can order them online and have them delivered to the store nearest you. They're made by Whit-Mor, I think.
