Going to the vet, please help?

I know there is a list of dangerous medicines I plan to print out and bring, but anything else? Like precautions against false treatments (like skin scrapings and teeth trimming). My friend brought her pigs to the vet the vet told her one of them had a nasal infection (URI?) and that they needed 250 mg of vit. c a day which I think is correct. She also told her only to give fruits twice a week. She sounds pretty cavy-savy right? But still anylinks would be great.

    Thanks.

The dangerous meds list is at http://www.guinealynx.info. Click on the Index button, and you'll see all sorts of information there.

Vitamin C won't cure an URI. Isn't there a better vet around?

I'm trying to go to a different vet. But the vet prescribed meds for the 'nasal infection'. She just told my friend they need vit. c

Teeth trimming is not a false treatment. It becomes a necessary procedure if teeth become maloccluded.

Avoid any meds ending in -cillin. These are human antibiotics that can be toxic to guinea pigs.

Don't let the vet tell you that giving yogurt works as a probiotic for your pig. It does not. Again, it works for people, not pigs.
