Well piggy visit
I took Charlie Brown and Wild Thing to their first vet appointment today. We met a very nice veterinarian who specializes in small animals. Speaking of small animals, it turns out my "1 year old" is probably only about 5 months old at the most. He only weighs about 750 grams--less than my 5 month old (810 grams). These are my first guinea pigs, and I didn't know he was so small. So, I'm off to the store today to buy the recommended alfalfa hay and pellets. I learned a lot from the vet. He showed me how to clip their nails and we talked about boar care, ear care, watching for signs of illness, what to do if they start bickering with each other as they age (since I thought I had an older and a younger pig...). I'm pretty scared that my two little babes are going to start fighting as they get older.
I'm very surprised, after caring for these sweeties for a little over a week, how much work they are. I can't believe people get them as "easy" pets for their children. No wonder there were at least 20 at the shelter waiting to be adopted.
