    Mr. Whistles Chatting

I have Mr. Whistles on my computer desk and he is just sitting here chatting with himself, so I made a video of it. I was also able to get the sound he makes when I give him a little scratch. I think it is like the "purring" sounds. But it sounds more like a "burr". Also his body language doesn't seem like he isn't liking what I was doing. His face looks like it says "ooo..that feels good". So I'm just going to guess that is his own "purr"

I do believe these are happy noises correct?

For some odd reason I can't hear the sound. But watching his body language he appears to be very happy and relaxed, to me at any rate!

I know Poppy will purr and vibrate when I pet him.

WoW! That's amazing. How old is he and how long have you had him? I can't believe how calm and layed back he is. Mine will sit still as long as i'm touching them. Otherwise, there are just too many things to see & do. They don't just lay back and relax unless they are in their cage.
He is absolutely adorable and he certainly looks and sounds content and happy.

Just as I read that he started to find my phone interesting and suddenly didn't want to sit still.
Mr Whistles is about 4.5 years now. He somehow knows the computer desk means to sit quietly and the floor means he can go running around. It might has something to do with me putting him back on his "throne" when he moves off it and gets too curious on the desk.
I've had him since he was a wee baby. He was the size of my hand when I got him. Now he is the size of my hand times 2-3. He got so big *sniffle*

Are you kidding me?? That is one happy piggy! Chester sometimes chatters like that for a full hour when he's sitting with me. Interesting that he only does that with me. I call it the "Mommy song". No, don't bother telling me how silly I am.

    LOL
Whistles does the same thing with me!
I put him on hubby's desk or in his lap and he is suddenly all stiff and quite. Back with me and he pancakes out and starts chatting with me.

Here is a picture of Whistles 1st xmas. That was 4 days after having him.

I have told my brother that getting anyone an animal for their birthday wasn't the way to go. While I love Whistles, I honestly would have never bought a guinea pig. I love animals that I can do activities with. Like my horses and my piggy pug.
But Whistles makes up for it with his cuddles/snuggles. My kitty doesn't snuggle me and Emma the pug is much too hyper to even sit still xD

I think the initial purr was a complaint but once you started petting him on the head, he loved it.

That's so funny! That is the same exact sound my piggie makes when I hold him. I thought he was just whinning I even call him my crybaby. But if it's him just chatting with me, I'll take it

I don't think so. That's just a lovely sound of communication. They do it with each other and their humans as well. The pitch and intensity of the sound can change, depending on the circumstances.

For instance, Chester has this very quiet, intermittent chatter as though he's muttering to himself. Then there is the louder and almost continuous sound that can go on for a short time or for more than an hour. This medium-loud sound will increase in frequency and intensity when he needs to return to his cage for toilet needs.

When he "gets the call", the singing/chatter will be urgent and rapid.........and will be accompanied by his running up ones chest to nip at your chin or nose. If you ignore him, the nip will turn into a bite and the noise becomes deafening.

We always respect this signal and return him to his cage. Doesn't matter whether he's faking or not. He wants to go home and we respect that. As a result, he is almost fully litter trained.... and rarely urinates on us.

Awww! My old guinea pig used to be almost as relaxed as that, although only when she sat on my belly. She did quiet little chutters and it was the cutest thing.

My younger guinea pig now makes those sounds so I know she's getting more comfortable with me, although she's constantly moving so I'm not sure if she's happy I'm better her or she's curious about my lap...

She maybe genuinely curious or testing her boundaries. She also maybe doing both. I know Whistles likes to test his boundaries quite often during floor time.

I can't see the link to the noises your piggy was making. But from everything I have read, they are good sounds.

Sigh.... That is the cutest thing ever! I am jealous! My boys chatter to each other but aren't totally relaxed enough with me the flatten out and talk to me... I'm hoping it will come though! Everyday they seem a little more relaxed with me and less jumpy! I have had them for a little over two months I guess now...

Mr. Whistles wasn't quite the chatter box when I got him. I think as he got older he started to chill out and start talkn. He used to HATE my phones. One of my older flip phone has chew marks on it from when he would chew on it while i was on the phone.
He may still hate my phones. I'm 95% texter than a talker. I only call if it is important or too long to text.
