    small animal shampoo

i have my very own organic tea tree shampoo. And it is only used if ABSOLUTELY needed. Example, someone has been laying in soft poos. And now has poo mushed all into their fur.

Tea tree oil can be dangerous, don't use it as it's not made safely for guinea pigs.

As for baby shampoo often mentioned & probably will be again, it's actually harsh & not appropriate at all.
Baby shampoo is one of the more alkaline products, meaning a high ph level.
This to minimise pain should it get in the eyes, but the natural skin/scalp mantle is acidic, and if the skin natural lower ph is disturbed it dramatically increases the risk of skin conditions such as dandruff.

Avoid any shampoo with harsh surfactants such as SLS, SLES & ALS. That basically covers all human commercial shampoos.
No shampoo containing perfume, parabens, silicones or paraffin. No essential oils unless the shampoo is made for pigs. Preferably Gorgeous Guineas.
I don't feel comfortable at all recommending Squeaky clean though, as they don't display the ingredients anywhere at all. Big no-no. If in doubt, go with gorgeous guineas.

    Good to know.
What dangerous affects could it have on a guinea pig? I had bathed my lone boar 2 days before he passed with that shampoo.

Tea tree oil can be used as a form of pestecide, and is toxic when absorbed through their skin & especially if ingested. The issue is also that they groom themselves. I don't know the symptoms of a reaction to it.
Gorgeous guineas still carries a tea tree oil shampoo I think, and while they explained it was safe I'm not comfortable with it personally.

I'm sorry for your loss, Though I don't think it was the shampoo as it's rinsed off.

Thank you for that useful information. I'll be doing more research on tea tree oil.
