On Monday I adopted two new female guinea pigs from my local rescue and wanted to share this with you all
In anticipation for them I had extended their C&C cage and worked on it almost all day the day before I was due to pick them up. I wanted them to live with my two existing agouti girls, Pixie and Sprite so I brought them along with me to the rescue, and they were introduced in a playpen in the shed. I was quite nervous because I wasn't sure how things were going to go, especially with Pixie being a bit of a dominant diva!! To my surprise and joy they got along great, with no teeth chattering, just a few snaps at each other and the usual bum-sniffing - lovely! After bringing them home they continued to get along despite a slight dispute between Pixie and Sprite (which just shows how introducing new piggies can upset any dominance relationships between existing pigs).
Annie (previously named Antonia) is a chunky texel (I think? - Photos below) She is approx 1 year old and Lola (previously named Lauren) is a cross of some sort I think (what do you think?) and approx 9 months old. They were kept in someones house with about 100 other pigs in terrible conditions and were taken in by Milhaven GP Rescue when the owner admitted she needed help. I am so proud to have supported my local rescue and that my new girlies have settled in perfectly and are increasing in confidence everyday
I have been brushing Annies hair everyday and have trimmed around her rump a bit and cut away a small matted patch she had - if anyone owns a very long haired piggie advice would be welcome on how best to care for their coats! Also If you want to know anything else about my experience adopting two new female piggies ask away!
PHOTO TIME!
