2 new piggies from a tote

I was surprised when I heard that familiar wheeking while I was picking up a craigslist purchase and asked if that was a guinea pig. I was horrified when I walked into the room and realized they were living in a tote. I found out they had lived in it since she got them over 2 months ago as babies. I asked if I could pick one up. She said 'you like guinea pigs?' I told her I had 2 and how I came to have Juniper. I was checking this guy out while I was telling her. She asked me, in one of the most desperate voices, if I wanted 2 more. They were both males and I knew I could give them a better home. So, I have 2 new boys.

They are running around half a bedroom right now while I work on a makeshift quarantine cage and it makes me want to cry watching them. This is the first time these guys have probably ever ran. I watch from afar and have only seen one of them popcorn but the other is still running like crazy. I've only put out some bell pepper for them and hay and they haven't touched either.

I'll get pictures when I can, they are still very scared of me so they hide when I get too close. They are both short hair. One is gray and white the other is mostly black with some white and orange on him. I think we are naming them Smoke and Patches.

I took them with a fostering frame of mind but I also thought I'd just be fostering Juniper. So we'll see. I think it'll really depend on if these 2 bonded pairs will bond with each other.

What do you mean a tote? All that comes to mind when I think of tote is a large shopping bag or purse.

What a fortunate thing for those little pigs that you were at that house. Keeping them in a tote . Oh my gosh, how sad is that. I'm so happy that you took them to your home. Thank you so much for caring. I can't wait to see pigtures.

Yes, so far. Feet look good, even though it was a tote, it was fairly clean. No eye issues, they don't act like they are in pain when I touch them, I haven't heard any weird breathing issues and I ran them by the vet at petsmart (I know I know) to double check that they are in fact boys. She even did it for free and said they are boys and seem to be ok. I'll get to our vet this week sometime for a better check. They need a good nail trimming but that's about all I see.

Oh jeez, poor babies! Why would someone keep them in such a tiny space? Even a large pet store cage is better then that.

Guinea Pigs are meant to be a part of your life.
God, the universe... whatever you want to call it has set it in writing that you are to rescue piggies by any means necessary.

I got the feeling that she knew it was wrong and didn't have the means to do better. I thought she was going to cry when I told her I'd take them. Happy tears. I don't know how she came to own them, I didn't ask many questions of that nature. I'm 99% sure I've seen them advertised on craigslist before so I think she's been trying to find them a better home.

Wow. Thank goodness you've arrived in their lives at the right time. Who knows what could've happened later if you didn't visit that place?

I have Smoke and Patches in a 2x3 cage for their quarantine period and I look at that with two piggies and their hidey then the pellet bowl... man it's tight in there. It's still at least twice as big as what they had. They actually seem a little more content in there than they did in the floor with much much more space. Maybe it's b/c it feels cozier and it's on a table.

They haven't been at the veggies very hard, I doubt they got them on a regular basis.

We hit a quiet moment while my daughter was busy with a cartoon and we were folding laundry and they all started talking to each other. It wasn't wheeking, it was more of a chirping. I thought it was sweet. I'm still working on pictures but here is one of Smoke.

He is adorable. Wouldn't you like to know what they were saying to each other when they were chirping? I'm sure it was along the lines of "wow, this is a great place to live".
