It sounded to me like it was your idea to put her with, or right next to, your other pigs. Which is why in my second post I mentioned that you could put her in with your pigs if you wanted. I didn't say I recommended it. Since you are the one doing the "fostering" you can do it any way you choose.

When fostering piggies you have no intention of adding to your herd, I would never even suggest adding them to the herd. That would be detrimental.

Sorry for not answering sooner! My fosters (Momma, 7 kittens- 3 weeks and 5 weeks, plus 2 piggy girls) have kept me busy and off Cavy Cages for a couple of days.

    Re: Getting Fosters! :)

My neighbor was giving me a ride one day and I happened to mention that guinea pigs can be neutered. Her eyes grew really wide and she looked at me and said, "Guinea pigs can be neutered?!" Uhh,,, yeah! So I got a first hand experience of someone who didn't know that.

Funny thing is, she suggested I get a male if I were to get a third so they could be "Frank Sinatra and..." I'm too young. Was it Frank Sinatra and Penny or Frank Sinatra and Ginger? Not sure, but that's why she said it. And I've made it abundantly clear to every one I talk to I have no intention of breeding and, in fact, am strongly set against it. If I were to get a male with two females, I'd adopt a previously fixed male from a rescue.

Thanks all! I'll check again today just to see if I can get Nova to sit still so I can see if anything extends, I also gave my friend a lesson on how to sex a guinea pig so that she could help me. (One person hold another person look and press)

@PigPandemonium Just a thought but, considering you're the one with the more experienced eyes, I would have your friend hold piggy and you do the looking. Then you'll know without a doubt what gender piggy is.

Yep I'm planing on it, I just thought it would be nice to have her as a second thought, if she thinks he's male or not, as I want to be 110% sure. It would be bad if I adopted him out as a boy, someone put him in with their boy pigs, and it ends up he's a girl.

    Re: Getting Fosters! :)

Critterluvva, I explained already to the original poster why I said that, as you can see in the first quote by me in your post.

As I explained, yes, it can cause "upheaval" (those were the words I used in the quote you so nicely added to your post). As I also stated, she can do whatever works best for her and her pigs. Especially since she is not officially fostering for any rescue.

I actually would prefer to add a solitary pig to an existing herd rather than have her be all by herself. In my rescue I have a very large cage that I keep single females in. These are girls that have not "bonded" with anyone else, and are available to adopters looking for a companion for their own lonely pig.

Right before I got my pig I saw an ad on Craigslist for two pigs in that same small cage! I was going to take them ($30 for two pigs + cage, etc.) but they were gone before I had official permission to bring a pig home.

I am glad you got this one out of that little cage!

@foggycreekcavy It now ends up that she is really a he (Don't know how the people giving him to me didn't see that, they even double checked after I gave them a link on how to sex pigs) So even if I wanted to add him to the herd and keep him or whatever, that wouldn't work out very well, seeing as my pigs are girls. I've just been looking again on Craigslist to find a pig or two to adopt out with him.

Yeah, it was super sad to see him trying to run around in such a small space, he actually ended up to be free since to owners just wanted him out of there. I also think they might have known he was a male, and felt bad selling him to me as a female, so they just gave him to me for free. Though I'm not really sure what to do with all the cages I will get, since almost all the pigs I see on Craigslist come with the cage and such since people just really want everything about the pig out of their house.

Oh my goodness! It's a good thing you checked.

I've had people lie to me about the gender of the pigs they are surrendering. Of course there are some who just never check their own pig! One very obvious mature boar was dropped off--they had him for a couple of years, gave him a girl's name, and always referred to him as a she. It's gotten so that anytime someone hands me a pig I automatically turn it over to check the gender!

    Re: Getting Fosters! :)

I was planning on checking no matter what before I started the process of finding him a home, but whilst watching him in the cage, from the back I could sorta tell she might be a he. xD Plus he smelled ten times worse than my females and his grease gland looked horrible, so that all led me to "Yep, it's a boy!" I'm pretty sure they did lie to me, seeing as they even double checked after I had said I would take him if he was a girl. Well there goes my plans of my first rescue pigs being girls Well I guess I will start having to read up on boar care, as I've never had one, only girls, so I never had a reason to look it up.

First question I have though, is how to I clean his grease gland? It seems to be really caked up good like it's never been cleaned. I tried today to just wash his whole body as it needed cleaning anyway from his mushy poos, but it was all dried on and yucky, so that didn't do much. He seems to hate being touched at all, so giving him a bath was a real chore. xD Also thought I'd mention that his mushy poos have cleared up so that's great!

Know what you mean about more research. I've already come upon the realization that I may need to do further research into the special care of skinnies. The rescue I worked with had a pair that needed attention, but I don't know their needs so I wasn't comfortable taking care of them. I know that a lot of their care is the same as any other cavy, but I also know that they have need a little extra special care. That's the part I haven't looked into. Good luck with your little boy!

Nope youtube is totally free! The "Subscribe" buttons just mean that you are subscribing to someone's channel, so that their videos pop up you your to watch, kinda like subscribing to an online news letter. I was on youtube for almost 5 years I think and had quite a big channel, however I got bored and quite xD

Ok, he's been listed! Here's the link: Guinea Pigs in Morgantown Area, Pennsylvania - Cute Little Boy Looking For A Great Home I thought about listing him on petfinder, but from what I see you can only list pets if you are a rescue or shelter, so I guess just listing him in GPZ will be fine.

Just wanted to say "great job" with creating a very appealing description! I'm sure that you will be able to place him.
