I don't really give mine a salad per se. In the morning they each get a leaf of lettuce (green leaf, red leaf or romaine). Usually around noon I give them a piece of cucumber or a little carrot. Then around dinner time, they usually go outside and munch grass and then I give them some cilantro later in the evening. Once in a while I give them a little piece of orange but they don't really like fruit. By the way, iceberg lettuce is not recommended for guinea pigs as it has very little nutrition.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but you might want to try another type of lettuce instead of iceberg, since it has little to no nutritional value. Red leaf is supposed to be very good, and romaine is also a good option, although apparently it can cause white urine in some pigs (I had a brief scare a few days back, which is how I know this ) if it's given in too large a quantity too often.

This thread: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ants-list.html links to a really great series of charts that show tons of different fruits and vegetables suitable for guinea pigs. It's color coded based on the amount in which it should be fed to the pigs - one color for almost daily, another color for two to three times a week, another color for sparingly, etc. These could be really helpful in finding lots of different combinations of vegetables to put in the salads!

Seriously, why are you making multiple threads about the same thing? http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ir-salads.html that is frowned upon by the mods. Please do not do it.

Every day each of my pigs gets about one leaf of Romaine lettuce, and about 1/4 of a yellow bell pepper. Also each week they get a slice of apple, carrot with top, green beans, plus corn with husk and silk.

Re: What do YOU feed your guinea pigs for their daily salads!?

My daily-safe salads are comprised of:
    - red or green leaf lettuce
    - cilantro
    - 1/8 green bell pepper (I give yellow once and a while to spice things up)
    - a cherry/grape tomato, baby carrot, zuchini slice ( one out of three, whatever I have on hand)
    - small tufts of wheatgrass (they don't get this every day, but frequently)

Twice weekly salads are the same, but with the addition of a blue coded veggie such as pea pods, arugula, parsley, etc. I also have a young piggie that gets blue color coded veggies more frequently.

Fruit I only really do twice a month, and only blueberries. I don't have much fruit on hand besides berries. I'm a huge veggie consumer.

I really want to do the corn husks! My organic market won't let me just take the husks, though.I won't eat corn myself.

@MissJean They can eat the corn also, so you can get them just the corn with husk and silk on, then throw it in their cage. They have a fun time pulling all the corn off and rolling it around to get all the sides. My pigs leave it totally bare of corn, and it's funny to watch them eat it.

Oh, forgot to put that my pigs also get tons of wheat grass each week, and each time I can, they get a huge pile of grass from the yard which they LOVE.

Corn is only supposed to be a very occasional thing, but I rather not feed it at all.

It's listed under one or two times per week, just like fruit, but the husks and silk are under once every day.

I've been wanting to do this too! We have a Sprouts that people peel their corn into a big can and I haven't gotten up the nerve to ask if I can take a few. I won't eat corn either and I'm nervous about the stringy part...seems dangerous to me so I'm kind of avoiding it, but so many people say their pigs love it. I wonder why your market won't let you take it, maybe they compost it?

Daily I feed per pig -
1 leaf green or red lettuce
    1/2 green bell pepper
    1/2 baby carrot
    5 pieces of cilantro

and an occasional cucumber slice, strawberry top, or a bite of apple.

The salad Amy and Borat get daily is primarily made up of spring mix salad greens (they especially love the red lettuce). I mix in other things throughout the week to change it up, like carrot pieces, a grape, some tomato, parsley, etc. (sadly, they both hate peppers). They usually get some cilantro several days a week, as well as corn husks 2-3 days.

So I can go and buy a corn a full piece with the husk and silk still on it nothing changed except for me washing it and put it in their cage?

Yes, however make sure you only feed it once a week, and not a ton of it, just like one really small ear, or a half of one. The piggies are experts at figuring out how to peel off the husk, and enjoy eating off all the corn, It's like a toy. Also at some places, you can ask for just a bag of husks and silk which can be feed every day. Just make sure that they are very fresh.

My piggies get lettuce everyday (I rotate between romaine, green leaf, and red leaf). They also get cilantro most days, parsley one day per week, green bell pepper most days, and occasionally they get a few slices of strawberry, tomato, apple, or carrot. They also get fresh mint and basil about once per week.

Our boys get lettuce (green leaf or red leaf) every morning along with one tiny baby carrot apiece. In the evening they get cilantro along with green pepper or green beans. We change it up occasionally with red or yellow pepper, celery, cucumber, and zucchini. Every couple of weeks they get a treat of corn husks (which they LOVE), apple slices, blueberries, a bit of tomato, or a couple of grapes. I gave them strawberries the other day; they ate only the top green part! Silly boys...

I went to the store and grabbed a huge bag of the husks and silk, and tossed it in the cage. It was like Christmas came early! They were so excited. It's really funny to watch them eat the silk. I was concerned about the silk being stringy, too, until bpatters said she cuts it up into shorter pieces. I think that's a good idea. She also said she doesn't eat corn, so she cuts all the kernels off, throws it away, then feeds a piece of the cob.

My pigs get spring mix lettuce, thinly sliced baby carrots, green beans (1-2 times a week), snow peas and red peppers(rarely), green peppers almost every night, and cilantro. That's it. They love it, and I'm bored, LOL.
