    Inconvenient and Unexpected Potty Breaks

Mosby has taken to peeing without warning in the most inconvenient spots. Especially when he's on ME. Just tonight he was minding his own business, chirping away and just grooming himself up on my shoulder and then I felt it.

That dreaded, sudden spread of warmth. Worst of all, he managed to pee in my hair as well. I love that bugger but MAN he sure loves to pee on me.

Oh I feel sorry for you! xD I'm lucky to have never had any of my four piggies pee or poo on my before, no matter how long I hold them.

Aha, I feel your pain. Holly has only peed on me a few times, but I think Harmony has realized if she pees on me, I'll put her back. The other day after lap time, I went over to their cage and opened the door and Harmony started wheeking like crazy, like usual. I went back over to my chair to sit, so I could get a better hold on her, and she peed on me! I always hold them with a towel, to help with little accidents, but they both love hopping on my chest and choosing that time to pee. Those silly pigs!

haha. This constantly happens to me. I hate it when they pee on my bed. Arlo peed on my bed as soon as I cleaned the sheets the other day. So annoying! It's really funny because I picked him up in a snuggle sack to put him on the bed and when I pulled him out a little poo pellet fell onto my bed. My girlfriend was like "THERE'S A POOH ON THE BED! THERE'S A POOH ON THE BED! IT'S ROLLING TOWARDS ME! DON'T PICK IT UP WITH YOUR HAND!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?!" And all I could do was die laughing...

Ahaha I died when I read that! It reminds me of the time a friend came over when I was in the middle of cleaning the pigs cage, and wanted to help. All I kept hearing that day was "Ewwwwwwwwwwww" "Uhgggg this is sooooo nasty" "Oh My Gawd how can you touch that" "You need to clean this more often" "LOOK AT THIS!!!! DO YOU SEE HOW NASTY IT IS?!?!?!" Thing is the cage wasn't even that bad...xD I think it was a good experience for her though, since she was thinking of getting a guinea pig because she saw mine and thought they were "Soooooooo Cuuuuuute" Not even thinking about how much work they are.

The worst time I got peed on was when I was wearing these thin, baggy pajamas. My Numa peed on me and then it just streamed down my entire leg. I scrubbed a couple layers of my skin off in the shower. Bleh.

    I love that little booger.

Having a blanket or towel is super handy for lap-time. I'm sure you now realize this.

I clean my pigs poopoo up with a large metal serving spoon. The first time my husband saw me doing that he goes," Gross, what are you doing!?"

I then brought the poo-filled spoon close to my mouth ,"Why, I'm having lunch of course!"

@PigPandemonium - haha. Yeah it was hilarious. I've had people do the same with me too. I always have to go on a rant about the care and time that is put into having these little guys. People don't seem to think it takes much, but it does!

Our four year old pig, Quee, probably pees and poops on me more than she does in the cage. Any time I take her out of the cage and hold her for more than a couple minutes at a time, she pees in the towel I hold her in and leaves a handful of poops.

Kwee, on the other hand, has never gone on anyone, and I've held her for over half an hour before. I don't even bother with a towel for her.

    I don't get it.

Wibble is a little munchkin for this. And it's always in my hair... she hops around my shoulder and burrows on in there, then obviously decides my hair makes a good enough hidey place for her to relax and relieve herself XD

I don't even have to be in the same room as my husband to know that he has his boar sitting on him. I'll hear little wheeking noises (usually from the pig) and then suddenly "AGGGGH, it's so HOT!!!!" And that will confirm that Picckalo has relaxed a whole lot!

We have extra large lap pads but somehow Picckalo in particular finds a way to angle his bum so that he pees over the edge. My husband has a set of old t-shirts that he wears specifically for holding him. Yes, piggy-friendly wardrobes!

Aha, I forgot to mention one incident! One time, right after I got Harmony, I was doing some lap time. Then I went downstairs to eat a muffin. I was watching tv and coming through my hair, and I found a brown mushy thing in my hair. So I went streaming through my house shouting "THERE'S GUINEA PIG POOP IN MY HAIR! EMERGENCY SHOWER, EMERGENCY SHOWER!" I realized about a month later she hadn't even been in my hair, nor pooped, and that it was probably just a chocolate chip from my muffin.

FYI: Urine is sterile. Well it should be. It doesn't take the "Gross" factor out, but I have been peed and pooped on by many tiny creatures.

Shar-Pei puppies when my mom WAS a breeder (she isn't anymore, and hasn't been for well over 12 years now)...my own babies, and now piggies. *shrug* It's a fact of life. Clean up move on . If I get a job at the vet I know I'll be peed and pooped on by other animals as well. *shrug* I dunno I find herbivore poop alot easier to deal with than carnivore/ominvore poop. I just use a little hand vac in my piggies pen to clean up their poop and that's that. Now a big mushy dog or cat turd with the odour with it, yeah I have a problem. And my kids have produced some real nasty gaggers in their time as little ones.

I'm of the mind that Sh*t happens and you deal.

Re: Inconvenient and Unexpected Potty Breaks

Just wondering if some of you are missing cues that your piggy needs to go back to the cage for toilet needs?

My boy has very definite signals when he needs to go back to the cage. They started when he was quite young, and as he learned that we understood those signals, he ceased to pee and poop on us......unless we didn't respond in time.

This hold true only if we are at home in his familiar environment and he knows that his cage is nearby. All bets are off if we are in some other location. At the request of my students, I took Chester to school for a final exam review, and a couple of them made the mistake of picking him up without a towel.......and of course, being a bit nervous, he urinated on them. I told them that Chester really liked them and was marking his territory.

Occasionally, there is an exception. I'll be lying on the sofa and Chester is on my chest watching television. He apparently is just so relaxed and so comfortable that he doesn't want to move. Then I feel the warmth spreading over my chest and he has this look of "oops........sorry, Mom.....it just felt so good".

Mufasa was amazing for a young pig. I did lap time with him every day for the all-too-short time we owned him, and he never peed or pooped on me even though I'd hold him for up to half an hour. Leela/Fry has christened me with pee already. I had a towel, but somehow it still managed to spill onto my jeans. Since that one time he/she has been good, although I'm more careful with how I position that towel now.

Re: Inconvenient and Unexpected Potty Breaks

All of my pigs also have those "I need to go potty" ques, so that is one of the reasons why I have never been peed or pooed on. If I'm giving them a treat, and they stop eating, I know that is one sign that they are done with getting held, and most likely need to go to the bathroom. Another is when I hold the pigs, for the whole thing they are laying down and relaxed, so if they get up and start walking around looking for a place to get off I know that is another sign.
