I'm getting my New Piggie today YAYYYYYYY!!!!!

GREAT NEWS.

My local shelter called last night and said they had a pig for me to adopt if I still wanted her.
I had contacted them four days ago but they didn't have any at that time.
I'd given them my number just in case.
They only usually handle dogs and cats because they are a rural animal shelter but don't turn away any animal, they at least like to give them a chance at a new life.

Someone had abandoned her at the shelter after hours.
In a cardboard box, "NO" Blanket to keep her warm, "NO" Food or Water either.
When they had found her she was huddled in the corner shivering and somewhat unresponsive.
And they weren't sure she'd make it I asked if I could have our family vet come out to the shelter and pick her up and see if he could do anything for her.
They said yea no problem since he also was the shelter's vet as well.

I called Gary and told him of the circumstances and he said sure I'll go get her and check her out and let you know how bad off she is.
Just give me a couple of hours I said sure no problem.

I called the shelter back and told them he was on his way and they said they'd wait for him.
I asked how much it would cost for me to adopt her and the man said we will talk about that in the morning lets see how she does?

Well about four hours later Gary called me back and said she of coarse was suffering from hypothermia since the night time temps here are starting to dip close to the upper 30's at night.
She was although fed she wasn't being fed enough and was a tad underweight, and was dehydrated from not having anything to drink the night before.

But he got her wrapped in a blanket on a heating pad and she was starting to get up and move around in her cage after he had also fed her what he called piggie pedilyte she had started drinking on her own and was eating some Alfalfa Hay like it was going out of style.

He told me that he would put her at eight to ten weeks old.
And that I could come and get her at his office today at around three in the afternoon she was doing so good he didn't see anything standing in the way of a full recovery for her.

I'd asked Gary how much he wanted for helping the poor thing for me, And he said he and the shelter heads were talking and that since she was a Guinea Pig and that she would have most likely just been put down because they are so very seldom wanted here in our small town.
That they were not going to charge me a thing since I was willing to take her and that they knew me and that I would take care of her.

All I could say was Thank You I was almost speechless.

King was a pig that I had rescued from a bunch of uncaring people and he holds a very dear place in my heart.
I know this little piggie and I will have many a happy and fun times as well.

Wow!! Glad that the poor piggy found a loving home!
The people who abandoned her are very careless.

What an amazing story! Congrats on your new pig. What heartless people to just leave her with no food or warmth overnight! Good for you for taking her in. It's nice to know she will be in a home that will take good care of her.

No worry No Offence taken.

I picked her up at the vets this afternoon about 4pm and she's doing pretty good all considered.

She was shaken quite a bit when I first brought her home, and she huddled in the corner quite awhile.
Didn't move seemed petrified, I got her to eat a small Baby Carrot, and by the looks of her water bottle she's drank some, she's been over by her food and hay but I can't say she's eatin any for sure but she's at least out and about so this is a good sign.

She's let me hold her and reassure her some and is squealing some as well as running laps so I'd say she's happy.
At least it beats the box they found her in.

I'll be posting a few pics in a day or two once she's adjusted a little more.

My wife told me I could get her a cage mate if she does well and I do believe she will.

Yes that he is.
He may specialize in farm animals and dogs and cats, But he's even taken care of our birds when we've needed him.
He loves all animals not just the ones that makes him the most money.
