Exclamation Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

Dahli and koi have been housed together for almost 40 days just fine before i seperated them after realizeing that Koi was pregnant. They are both girls and had NEVER fought before. I got rid of the seperation today and things were fine for about an hour and all the babies and mom and Dahli were fine and sniffing was done when all of a sudden i hear all this sqealing and i see Dahli and Koi spinning across teh cage brawling O__O !!!!

I grabbed koi with a towel and put her on the upper floor.

I dotn know what to do now O_O what brought this on? shoudl i try teh bath thing? I had just cleaned EVERYTHING today before putting them in anyway! Id even washed teh houses and watterbottles! Will i need to seperate them permanently? Was Koi trying to keep Dahli away from the babies? Is Dahli just being territorial???

O______O!!!! HELP!!

Re: Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

If the mom, the babies, and Dahli were all together, it most likely is because the mom was protecting her babies from Dahli.

Still, the mom is protecting her babies, no matter how much of a good friendship Dahli and Koi have, this happens every time a guinea pig has babies, the mom protects her young. And if the babies are less than 2-3 weeks old, they need to be with thy mother.

Re: Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

ok then. i Hadnt realized that teh mom would be that protective. =__= gah this is exausting. Ok ive just finished moveing all of the stuff Dahli will need to the upstairs and then closeing off the ramp. The upstairs is kind of small but since Dahlis supposed to be takeing it easy anyway i think it will be fine temporarily. Koi ad the youngin's have the whole downstairs to themselves.

Re: Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

I would do introductions as if they had never met - using the same things in the cavyspirit intro page, and doing things on neutral ground. Maybe do floor time together for a while, and if that goes well put them all back in the same cage together. Also, have you built a cage that meets the recommended space for that many piggies? I know the babies are probably too young to really need the space, but that will change quickly, and may make Koi more relaxed in the mean time.

Re: Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

Im working on getting the stuff to make a much larger cage once they are bigger but they have an area plenty big for the time. Mama Koi and the babies have a 2x4 grid area all to themselves.

Why did you separate them when you realised Koi was pregnant? When one of my piggy sisters was pregnant I kept them all together.

Re: Dahli and koi fighting!!!!??? HELP!!!!

Well since Dahli was sick i thought it was best and from what i read it was better to not stress the mom out :O

I gave them long hours of playtime together though. I seperated them mostly because i was afraid that if she gave birth when i wasnt there that Dahli might attack teh babies.(i read it can happen. Im paranoid)
