They loved each other for a week and now hate each other...
hi guys i was just wondering if anyone has ever encountered my situation. A friend gave me a female guinea pig named Lola and after about 3 months of having her i wanted to get her a cage mate. So i went and adopted another girl named Abbey, well after a few days of quarantine i took them to the bathroom floor (which was neutral) and let them meet, i did it twice and they did a lot of sniffing and chasing around but in no way showed any agression so i cleaned the whole cage so it wouldnt smell like anybody and put them together. They were best of friends for about 5 days and then they got into a little fight, so i gave them a bath together because the rescue said that would help them bond, and after that i put them back into the freshly cleaned cage again and they were okay for about 30 minutes and then they go into a bad fight where the Abbey bit Lola and put two deep puncture wounds in her nose. Now i keep them separated, at first with grids in the middle of the cage but abbey would bite the grid and shake it as if trying to get to Lola so i had to put coloplast on the grids so they cant see each other. I am just wondering why they got a long so well for a while and then it was like a switch flipped and they cant be near each other with out fighting? Any one have any ideas on why this happened?

They are still trying to work out dominance. When we adopted out newest girl Villie, she always got into fights with our eldest, Freya. There were fights where hair tufts where pulled out. They just had to work it out on there own. And in my situation, separating them only made it worse because it seemed like that had to re-do everything from the previous visit. They eventually got over it and live peacefully together. Let nature take it's course in a sense, but if blood is drawn, do separate for safety purposes and try again a little later.
PS. It helped to bond them by giving them veggies and hay together because they were forced to be near each other, but were too busy eating to care about dominance.

Honestly, the only way my two females (who would NOT get along no matter what I tried) only are now together peacefully because I stuck the most aggressive pig in the docile piggy's cage. I had tried neutral territory and putting the docile pig in the aggressive pig's cage only to fail each time. There was some rumblestrutting and chasing but no biting/scratching and teeth chattering like previous attempts. So far it's working for us
