Question Use of vitamin E for paws?

My Chewy has been getting kind of a rough skin, like scab, in his front paws. I use fleece and towels for bedding and their cage gets cleaned every week, sometimes twice a week. The poop is clean out two to three time a day and they get groomed once a week.
The hay is kept away from the fleece in a grid place on one side.

Yesterday when I groomed them I applied Vitamin E oil too all four paws, after I had cleaned them with mineral oil and their bath.

My question is: Is Vitamin E oil ok to use on GP's paws or is it bad for them?

Thanks.

Re: Use of vitamin E for paws?

No.....what Chewy gets it's like extra growth of skin and it's quite hard. I apply plenty of mineral oil on his feet and massage it for about two minutes and then gave him his bath.

This last time I applied vitamin E because the area seemed to be iritated after I finally removed the overgrowth.

It's like a hard layer of skin on top of his own skin.

Re: Use of vitamin E for paws?

You can trim them off with nail clippers and then keep the area clean.

Re: Use of vitamin E for paws?

I would be careful trimming them. Only trim if they have a potential to rip off or something. My piggie Ann has one of these. Here's a link to a thread that I posted with a picture of Ann's foot.

Re: Use of vitamin E for paws?

I wouldn't think of clipping them, I barely try to remove it with my nail and it hurts him. What I've been doing so far is working, I just need to know if Vitamin E is safe to use on GP's.

Peggysu, for some reason I'm not able to open the picture in your link.

I can open it just fine.

As far as Vitamin E goes I wouldn't use it. More importantly I'd leave it alone as long as it's not hindering their activity.
