Does any of you now what my piggie mean? He starts like, licking my hand and making funny noises, similar to a dolphin, like "hehehehehe" and some minutes later he starts chattering his teeth to me? Is he trying to tell me something? |

Teeth chattering is a warning. I would suggest if he teeth chatters he either thinks your hand is another cavy he needs to establish dominance over or he wants to be put down. Possibly both. My boys teeth chatter when one gets in the other's way for example. I imagine they're saying "Look at my big teeth, I'll totally bite you with them if you don't move now." The high pitch noise is called Wheeking, it's usually out of fear or because the pig wants something (many owner's pigs wheek when they hear the fridge open for example). Does your pig have a buddy? He may be lonely and is trying to socialize with you cause he has no cavy companionship. |

that happened to me yesterday! Wendell and Oliver were playing and then all of a sudden the chattering started and they started pushing each other. I broke it up I thought they were going to fight. 5 minutes later they were sleeping together. They are just so cute. |

He's probably just feeling lonely, I guess... I was almost happy because he makes that same funny noise when he's eating and I thought that maybe finally he was not so scared of me... I guess that'll never happen... Poor Stephen... |

How long have you had him for? They take time to warm up to people but they do come around. |

HUm... I have decided not to get him a buddy because I am sure they are going to fight and I don't want to take any risks. And I don't want to keep the in separate cages either, so he's going to keep by himself. Maybe after he's older and has passed puberty... I have a real TRAUMA about my pets fighting everytime I get a new one. I have got Stephen about 20 days ago. I don't really know how old he might be. How much do they grow? Maybe I can try to guess... |

As for a getting him to be calmer around you - that is going to take way more than 20 days! |

Well first of all you need to give him time he will warm up to you, it took my boys about a month. Secondly though piggies are social animals and really need the company of their own species to be happy. How old is he? I have two boys both in puberty and they tooth chatter now and then but they don't "Fight". Two males can totally peicefully coexist so long as thier housing needs are met. |

I wish I couls actually do it... But here in Brazil you'd be lucky to get a sick dog in a shelter... There are no shelter for other animals |
