Pine Cleaners

Since using pine shavings is not healthy for the GP what about pine cleaners?

I know that for rats, I couldn't even use pine cleaners so I was wondering if it was the same as my daughter uses a strong solution when cleaning.

Re: Pine Cleaners

Use a solution of vinegar and water when cleaning. I don't know if using pine cleaner is a good idea, but I'm thinking it probably isn't.

Re: Pine Cleaners

I wouldn't use them as they have a strong odor that stays and stays and stays...... Check the label. Lots of chemicals, no? Vinegar is your best bet. It does what you need a cleaner to do plus the smell goes away and it's safe for the piggies.

Re: Pine Cleaners

No, I didn't mean using pine cleaners to wash GP cages with - I'd never do that.

My daughter uses pine cleaners to clean house with. And the strength is so strong that I can't stand it - but I have asthma. So mt tollerance to that stuff is pretty low.

Re: Pine Cleaners

I wouldn't use a pine cleaner in your home. If it's not tollerable for you imagine what it's like for the guinea pigs sensitive noses.

Re: Pine Cleaners

When you smell something, it's because tiny particles of that something have landed on your olfactory cells. So, in effect, you have taken some into your system. Clean doesn't necessarily have a smell or scent, but is evident by lack thereof. We are assailed by odors that we have no control over, so plain, no odor air (except for sweet, dry guinea pig smell) can be very refreshing. Your daughter is not doing herself any favors. I hope that she tones it down for both your sakes.
