Okay so I like to keep charlies nails nice and short. But I have only had jake for 3 days and have just seen his nails up close and they are long not curling (yet) and I managed to cut one nail and then he threw a fit and ran away! I did not cut the quick or anything he just wont let me cut them I have guillotine and human nail clippers are either of these okay or should I get other ones? |

I find the big human clippers work good for me. I would use either human or the cat kind. The guillotine are not very good for piggies as you can get the whole toe. |

http://www.guinealynx.info/nails.html This shows a great way to hold a guinea pig when trimming nails if you don't already do it this way. Hopefully it works, if he is anything like Sebastian good luck. |

I've check over my pigs everyday, during lap time, petting, checking for lumps/bumps and things of that sort, and I've had Pepe for......ummm, 2 months? His nails don't seem to be growing, I do have that low grade 120 grit sandpaper in their 2 tunnels, and I've read where they are supposed to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks, depending on growth? I would be scared to death to go to his nails as they are short, not long at all? Maybe 1/4 mm? (I'm looking at a ruler to try and jugdge the size approx. haven't actually measured them). |
