So they have been living together in the same cage ( 2x4) for 2 weeks or so now, they get fresh veggies everyday, hay, water and food.. they both like shoe boxes except Cyndi likes hers upside down and Sativa likes hers right side up with her cuddle cup in it. Everytime Sativa goes to eat her veggies, her food, or get a drink or eat hay, Cyndi chases her around and rumbles, no matter what she's doing, if Sativa is in her own hidey, Cyndi will go in there just to rumble so Sativa burrows herself under the bedding and Cyndi will leave her alone until she runs into her. The other day, we were watching a movie and we heard Cyndi rumbling, we looked over and Cyndi was it looked like, chewing on Sativa's ear, but Sativa didn't cry out or squeak she just sat there. Also, we will take them out for lap time, because if we only take Sativa, Cyndi gets upset, and if we only take Cyndi, she thinks she's better and she will bully the little one more. We are taking them to the vet to check for mites for both of them, and to make sure they are both sows... What can we do until then? There hasn't been any bloodshed yet but no matter what Sativa does she stresses out Cyndi.... |

Cyndi I believe is one, and Sativa is a baby, probably a couple months |

It's probably a puberty phase. Just let her have time to work it out. It sounds like the younger one is being submissive so that should keep there from being bloodshed. When Sativa reaches puberty you could have this all over again only in reverse. |

I would take Sativa out on her own any how, give her lap time while Cyndi's having floor time or while your partner has her and sneak her some veggies and hay then. My boys are in puberty atm (both of them!) and that's what I do for who ever's on the bottom of the totem pole at the time. Last edited by JD In Van; 10-25-09 at 09:58 am. |

oh no. haha, yay. I don't know, it's a bit frustrating, I'm gonna give it about a month more, and if they can't get along maybe Cyndi just doesn't like a friend in the same cage. The previous owner never took her out of her cage, it was store bought, she was super skittish, they didn't handle her alot- and she never let her have floor time because " Cyndi likes to run" Was the reasoning, and now that I have joined this website I understand that I actually think I saved Cyndi, but now that she was never social to begin with.. I think it might be hard getting her use to another guinea. Could it be also that she's long hair and Sativa is short? |

Yes. Actually Buddy prefers my daughter and Baby (who is very skiddish about being lifted/carried) usually gets lap time with me. He gets really annoyed if Buddy gets lap time with me because I'm his lap. And both of them get annoyed if they're left alone in the cage. But thems the breaks. :P As for how long I have no idea. I'm told sows are differant then boars. My boys are brothers so they're both the same age and they've been mildly squabbling with the occational real bout of tooth chattering or fur pulling for about 2 months. But I don't fret over it. Boys will be boys. I expect they've got a month or two before they settle down. |
