Talking Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

You might have seen my other thread, "do I need two" and now I am going to get one but I need help naming her. I'm getting her tomorow, and I'm hoping to get a texel guinea pig. There are a couple of places that have guinea pigs, and one of the places for sure has white texels, and probably the other has texels too. I might get a long haired (not a coronet or or silky) mabey a peruvian. i'm really exited, and dizzy will be too! I was thinking of these names:
1.latte
2.fudge
3.milkshake
4.tipsy
5.mocha
6.MiMi
7.Autumn
8.domino
9.twix
10.snickers
11.sassy
12.spazz
I'll update the thread when I know what color(s) she is.
you can also post names that you like if you want
thanks!

Her colour will help in naming her but out of your names so far I like Milkshake cause it is not the norm!

Re: Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

Yeah, wait until you get her and see then what name would be appropriate for her personality.

On the other hand you have a Dizzy, and you can't get dizzy without being a little tipsy. So I say Tipsy and Dizzy sounds good to me.

Re: Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

Haha Tipsy's a great name! I like your thoughts Rnd210.

It reminds me of an old hamster I had when i was little called Tequila! That song had just hit the charts and I thought he was singing about a lady called tequila, not alcohol!! I thought it was a lovely name haha

Anyway, on topic; I like the name spazz you suggested too! Silly names rule

Re: Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

Yeah I need to name my new pig too. So far i haven't come up with much. My older pigs name is "guinea." A lot of people give me a hard time for it, but i love the name and so does he.

Haha! Surely if you get a new piggy it needs to be called "pig"?

I agree!!! It would be so funny.....hi meet my guinea pigs, Guinea and Pig!

I keep calling my Guinea Pig, Gizzy = Guinea Gizzy and she listens to that as well but I get sulking treatment when I call her "Gizzy Waddle Butt" hahahaha So I guess there is a lot at stake with a name!

Yes, I know that's all you asked, which makes me suspect you're buying it off a breeder, and if so, that's a real pity.

Where you get it is SO much more important than what you name it.

Piggywonder, just ignore the negative comments about where you're getting her. Really ALL that matters is that you give her the best life possible.

This entire site is about helping CAVIES, which is what I'm trying to do. If you just want to chitchat with people who won't be concerned about guinea pig welfare, there are innumerable places where you can do that. This site is not one of those places.

NO, I think it does matter where she gets her pig from.

This is a pro-adoption website and blackarrow was not out of line to inquire. Every one is entitled to their opinion, but I find it unfair that her inquiry was called a "negative comment". She is only rightly concerned that piggywonder is considering obtaining a texel pig from a rescue, not a pet store or breeder.

I'll tell you why it is important where she gets her pig from...

Should she go to a pet store and buy one that most likely came from a filthy pig mill or a breeder like Rainbow World? Where sows are kept on wire bottom cages and forced to breed over and over and over again against their will? Where the pig she most likely gets will be sick and diseased? Where the pig will be kept with a dozen others in a tiny fish tank with cheap food, dirty wood shavings, and a water bottle that hasn't been refreshed in days? So after she buys it, one more poor soul can take it's place while a lonely pig in a rescue waits anxiously for a forever home hoping that maybe today she will find someone to love her?

Or should she go straight to the source? Straight to a breeder to get her desired texel breed? Where pigs are kept in dark kennels and inside they eat, sleep, and breed on a mound of feces? Where these poor pigs are living in unsanitary conditions just to be nothing more than a way to make some money?

Although it is unjust to make assumptions, it seems suspicious that piggywonder has found a couple of places that have texel pigs as well as long-haired pigs, even in a specific color.

So I don't think blackarrow asked an inappropriate question and more importantly that when she asked it, it wasn't meant as a negative remark against piggywonder.

Re: Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

The thing was she mentioned it so many times, I found that to be sort of offensive as poor Piggywonder was only trying to ask a question. OBVIOUSLY it does matter where she gets it but in this case blackarrow sort of over-did it.

Re: Getting a Guinea pig, what to name It

Actually blackarrow is spot on. The OP wants a shiny new pig from a irresponsible breeder, thereby condemning a shelter pig to death. If so they should be honest and upfront about their selfish choice to buy rather than save a life or two.

They know what this board stands for and they are not going to get any pats on the back for their choice.
