Hi there, PiggyWonder.
I think perhaps the reason you have been met with such overwhelming responses regarding where you're getting your guinea pig(s) is because you have been on this site since July. Now, whether or not you've done a lot of reading and/or posting, I can't say much for. However, I'm thinking that many folks on here are just hoping that you can understand the precarious situation that a lot of homeless guinea pigs are in. There is an overwhelming amount of animals, and they're not just canine and feline, but small mammals as well, who are facing euthanasia due to many rescues being too full, the lack of foster homes available to them, and other such issues such as funding. Many shelters run on mostly donations, and in these hard economic times a lot of people are just not as open to donating. (Especially to rabbit/guinea pig rescues.) The majority of us in here have made the first mistake or two, prior to becoming involved with this website and volunteer work at local shelters of purchasing these precious beings through a pet store or breeder. It's forgivable if you sincerely knew no better. Once you see the alarming statistics though, you'll see why this website and its members are all anti-breeding.
I didn't catch at all where you are from, but there are a lot of folks on here that would be more than willing to help you find the guinea pig you are looking for from area shelters. If you cannot drive or cannot drive more than an hour from home, there are many places that will be more than happy to deliver them to you. Now, this might require some waiting... to pass the time, you could rearrange everything around your house/apartment to set up a nice cage and materials you'll need. You can even read up on their needs in the meantime, so that by the time a guinea pig becomes available you will be almost a pro!
I can understand the anxiety you must have in wanting just the right piggie for you, but believe me, once you find one through a rescue, it will be more than worth the time and trouble once you realize you are saving a life. I know that you may feel like everyone's attacking you in wanting to know where you are acquiring them from, but just please keep in mind that many of these members also watched a lot of guinea pigs have to be put to sleep due to nobody wanting them.
I wish you all the best with whatever you decide. As far as names go, well... I'm not too creative in that department. My first girls several years ago were named Nibbles, Cuddles, and Skittles. Now I have two boys, Felix and Patch. Felix had a brother named Oscar, after The Odd Couple (another casualty of being from a petstore before I knew any better) but he passed away only one month after we brought him home. (You can rest assured that shelters provide superior healthcare to their adoptable piggies before you bring them home!) My piggie buddy who took his place is named Patch, who came to me from somebody who didn't want him anymore.
