Nothing. A coronet just has a rosette mid-forehead that the peruvians lack. It's like a crested versus an American. |

I know what the Coronet is, I just wasnt sure if their fur was a different texture or not. |

Those piggies are beautiful. I believe that a coronet is a peruvian with a rosette (whirly cowlick) at the forehead. My Sable is a silky and I use these trimmers with a long comb to trim up her butt and sides. On the actual underside of the rump area I go a little longer than an american. The rest I just kind of trim up so it doesn't drag. In this picture of Sable you can see the long peice of hair that trails down near her face. Without a hair cut it does that all over her body and tends to get nasty. ![]() That being said....the best thing you can do to keep their hair clean and needing less bathes is to keep the cage super clean. Anything that keeps moisture wicked away from the pig helps keep the fur from getting messy. They don't make it any easier for us by liking to pee where they lay to sleep! |

I think you mean a coronet is a silkie with a crest. Peruvians are different as they have cowlicks and hair that sticks up rather than falls to the side. You groom coronets like silkies. Just keep the hair trim and brushed to prevent matts. |

As you can see in the photo, her hair still looks beautiful and when she sits down like this it touches the ground. |

I bathe Gizzy once a month as I am allergic to the "Protein in her Dander and Saliva" So I use the Byofresh as it is softer on her skin. But I would say that she really does need it, her hair gets knots easily even though she gets brushed daily (I think she popcorns too much to keep it neat) Everything sticks to her hair - specially hay! And then she also gets "Butt washes" if she really needs it (Had about two thusfar) |

They both have long hair and it needs to be short around their butt. I know my peruvian's hair grows really fast. I get it real short and it's like I turn around his hair is long around his butt again. For my piggies I bought Gorgeous Guinea's shampoo and conditioner http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/index.html. It smells great and is specially formulated for guinea pigs. I have used it once for the girls who are Americans. I use the "Posh'n'Go" on Sebastian and it makes him really white. He get's stains easily on his back end when I let it get a little to long before a trim. The products I have smell great. I got decent sized bottles, which will probably last me a while since piggies don't need to be bathed often. Sebastian's favorite sleeping place is his litter box of course. |

I should apologize ahead of time for not looking hard enough before posting my question. Since the topic is long hair pigs and grooming, I believe Santino is a silkie. I haven't bathed him yet, but I really think I need to because when he came to me, his fur feels dirty..if that makes sense. The other day I was trying to *gently* brush his hair, but it was so tangled, especially around the bun-buns, so while I held him, my husband chopped it off. It's actually kind of cute because now he looks like he's wearing a fur skirt. Anyway, my question is, can someone link me to that link that was mentioned earlier in the thread about bathing?? I have a water bottle that people use to mist their plants, but now I'm using it to squirt my cats when they misbehave. I was thinking about turning the nozzle back to the mist area and squirt a washcloth until it's damp and then run it through Santino's hair. Would that work? No shampoo, just water. |
