We are adopting a guinea pig as a buddy for Daisy. She is about a year old and her name for now is Lucy. We have to drive an hour and a half this afternoon to pick her up. From what I can tell, she is a real cutie.

She's adorable. Don't forget to verify the sex (both her and Daisy) and quarantine her in a separate room for 3 weeks.

We are quarantining right now and taking Lucy to the veterinarian next week. The previous owner had her in this tiny cage on the living room floor with two cats in the room. Poor piggy was terrified. She road home in my lap and seems to be doing well. We sexed her and Daisy, and they are both female, so we're good there too.

Have an appointment for each piggy at a cavy savvy vet. Lucy goes Monday, and Daisy goes Tuesday.

I was thinking about get my pig a friend but I don't know anything about that. Since my pig is a female, should I get her a female friend? I'm afraid they will attack each other or something. Or the fact that my guinea pig is healthy and I don't want to bring in a sick guinea pig to make her sick.

First of all, you should DEFINATLY and seriously think about getting your piggy a friend-they do better and are happier in pairs(or more). Seccond, two females won't fight if you do the introductions properly. Third, you should ALWAYS put a new pig in quarintine for 3 weeks that way you will make sure that the new pig isn't carrying desises that you can give to your current pig. Also, take the new one to the vet after you get him just to make sure nothing is wrong and you have a healthy pig.

Took Lucy to the vet today. She is in perfect health, and now she is very angry at me. Daisy gets to go tomorrow.

Aw. Nothing cuter than an angry guinea pig. (thinking of piggie stamping tiny feet and pouting). She'll get over her huff. Congrats that she passed her physical!
