new 5 1/2 week old baby won't stop wheeking

So.....our new baby is a squirmy, adventurous, lovey, baby that eats well and loves to explore but......she has a siren wheek that stops the entire house. She has spent the last day just noisily talking and wheeking. What is going on and what do I do?
She had a vet check and is very healthy......is she just missing her mom?

Re: new 5 1/2 week old baby won't stop wheeking

I had a baby guinea pig once and she wheeked constantly as well. I think she was just missing her mom and sisters. The new environment and people must be scary for a little one too. Just do your best to keep her cozy and well fed I want to get a friend for Gary but I am really worried that the younger pig will be too noisy. The cage is in our bedroom where my toddler sleeps so that would not work out at all. (Gary is super quiet-he only wheeks when I come in the room with food).

Is the baby on his/her own? If so I would bet the baby is lonely.

Yes...she is in my bedroom in quarantine until I can put her with my other 3 girls........they were so nervous listening to her in my room yesterday. It has to be scarey for her and confusing for my other girls. She mostly wheeks and wheeks when we get her out....she seems happy to be petted and loved but just "cries" like she is looking for her mamma. Any ideas how long till she is happier...I feel so bad for her. I had thought about breaking quarantine just to see if she would be happier.

If she's eating and drinking she's okay. Maybe you can put a stuffed animal in there? How much longer does she have in quarantine?

Man, this makes me glad I'm thinking about adopting two sisters. Hopefully it'll be better for them. Just hang in there. Quarantine is only 7-10 days!

Re: new 5 1/2 week old baby won't stop wheeking

we just picked her up Friday so 3 weeks....she seems to be happier and settling in when she can be alone in the quieter room. She is eating her veggies and loves her salads and is just barely touching her pellets and water.

Re: new 5 1/2 week old baby won't stop wheeking

She'll probably quiet down when her QT is up and she can be with other piggies then. Mine FREAK when they hear other pigs (like if my daughter is watching guinea pigs on UTube), they start running around trying to see/find the other pigs and weeking like mad. I think it's heard instinct to call out to the others in the herd. She can probably hear/smell your other pigs and is just trying to communicate with them.
