Ok I was reading on the Guinea Pigs Social Life under the quarantine sections and it is stated that "When you bring home a new friend for an existing guinea pig, or you get two guinea pigs from two different sources, then BEFORE you try putting them together, you need to keep them apart for two to three weeks to make sure the new guinea pig does not have any medical problems which could be transmitted to the other." I pulled that directly from the site. My new gp has seen a vet, is healthy, and has been given a precautionary dose of mite meds and is healthy. He has been in quarantine for almost 3 weeks on this coming monday. Thats less then 3 days away now. I know everyone says 3 weeks but if it is stated on the site, that a member of this site has given to me, could I start the introductions tonight rather then wait till monday. Its little less the 3 days away. Last edited by gunnybunny; 09-25-09 at 05:11 pm. Reason: typo |

Less than three days isn't a long time, really. I know that when you're waiting for something (like opening presents on the day of Xmas, *coughcough* which I ALWAYS fail at), the suspense is almost unbearable. I think you can watch the pig for a bit longer, just to be completely safe. |

No its not, however, and I should have stated this before. I have company coming over. I have no other room that I can put him in. There will be quite a few people here and some little kids. I do not want the kids to mess with him, nor do I want him to freak out with the amount of people that will be here. The only other room that he will be bale to go in would be the same room I am asking him to be in now. I do not want to risk their health, by no means, but he is going to have to go in the room, I have no choice, judge if you wish, people do it anyway the only difference is I am giving permission. That is why I am asking and not JUST DOING it. |

I think that's just an excuse. I'm sure your aunt wouldn't mind having him for a couple hours. Or even in another family members bedroom. There is always a choice if it is about their health. You can make a choice, it's just the matter of how much your willing to make it. |

My aunt will be here, Vicky you can be mad at me all you want. I am asking because of what I have read on the other site which is also a part or reference of this site. Please explain something to me. Say the "full' 3 weeks quarantine is done. What then happens if he gets sick after a few days then? How is that any different form what I am asking do to now? |

Which room is the pig in? You can have the guests in the living room only (If the quar. piggy isn't staying there already) and the pigs can still have their own seperate rooms. |

Use your best judgment on whether to go ahead and do introductions or not. But don't get upset at others when they suggest that a full 3 weeks is better than cutting it short. And please don't start childish fighting on this thread. |
