Hello all! I have a question and need some opinions. I have 2, 10 week old female piggies (Brownie and Pumpkin.) They are getting a little less skittish with each passing day. Brownie loves to make the bells on the bird toys in her cage ring but she also "chews" on the dog bowl I have their food in so it makes noise too. Do you think she just does this to hear the noise or could there be some other explanation? My other question is does anyone leave a radio on during the day when they are at work for the piggies to listen to so it won't be completely silent for them? Thanks for the input! |

It sounds like she is bored. Do your pigs have access to an unlimited amount of grass hay? |

My boys are the same age and they're very playful, though mostly they amuse themselves by chasing eachother and redecorating (they're forever moving stuff in and out of their houses and even moving the houses and anything else out of their lap space). Mine mostly chew paper if it's in the pen, toilet paper rolls and hay. They do take great pleasure in knocking over their veggie bowls which I swear they do just for the impish joy of spilling food all over freshly cleaned fleece. I don't leave the TV on but I live in an apartment building so it's never really entirely quiet here. And they have eachother. How big is the cage they're in? |

I leave the radio on for Gizzy during the day and she really seem to be a happier piggy since I started doing this. |

I've noticed that mine love the sound of the vaccum cleaner. You'd think it would scare the heck out of them but the do laps and stock their noses at the end of the cage to see what I am doing. |

I don't believe they are bored. They have 2 of the largest under the bed totes put end to end with an additional 16" X 24" tote on the end. They have stuffed animals, cat toys with bells in them to roll around, 2 food holders with bells on them, 2 bird toys with bells on them, an unlimited supply of hay at all times, a "crow's nest" to sit on and look out of, and 2 hiddy spots. She has not chipped the bowl so it's not that it tastes good I'm sure. I think I will leave the radio on during the day while my husband and I are gone. We live out in the country so it is always super quiet during the day. Thanks for the help! |

I too leave the radio on all the time so they even have the sound of classical music at night,I also do the same for my two doggies. |

I know this may seem strange, but whenever my pigs are on my lap, the seem calmer when I play hard rock for them. They seem to also like Skindred. They hate pop, but I haven't yet tried rap except for Pitbull. I've also tried BassHunter, but Twix's all-time favorite is Muse-Micro Cuts or anything in falsetto (high pitched). |

How big is the underbed tote? I doubt there's one that big enough for them to run around. Please see this page: C&C Cages - Types and Styles The bottom of the page mention not to use plastic bins. They need at least 7.5 sq.ft. of flat space so they can run laps. |
