Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I adopted 2 8month old sisters from a shelter on monday. When I put them in their 2x4 c and c cage they just stood their. I put a towel over them and they then started moving. When I woke up today they were both in my hidy thing. Which is a fabric fish. (They enter through the mouth to snuggle. It is very cute) The problem is. They aren't coming out! Not only is it bad because they aren't eating or drinking, but the fish is starting to smell like urine, and I need to wash it! I don't want my babies sitting in urine and poop! What do I do to get them out? I put the towel so it hangs over the entrance to the fish. It made a tent like thing. I did this to encourage them to come out. I put hay and pellets under it.Another thing is. I have seen my brown girl move around in the fish, but my black girl is in the back, and I don't even know if she is ok!How can I get them to come out! I tried taking my brown girl out but she squealed and ran further into the fish. I am really starting to dislike this fish. The opening is pretty big, but I can't pull them out because my hand and the piggy dont fit at the same time! Please help me!!! |

First, it will take them a long time to get comfortable, so be patient. Second, you should have at least two and preferably three hideys. They're likely to fight if they don't have their own. Hideys with more than one entrance are best. You can use a step stool or a cardboard box with holes cut out if you don't want to buy them. Take out the fish and wash it. They will come out to eat and drink when you're not around. Pigs don't drink all that much, so don't worry if you don't see a major change in water level. They can get most of the water they need from veggies. |

Reach your hand in and carefully pick them up. My youngest was eating really well in the beginning so I fed him crushed pellets and gave him water with a syringe. You could try that to make sure they are eating/drinking. |

Put your hand in there and get them out. Or very lightly lift the back of the fish so they come out themselves. They need a hiding place to feel secure and they will eventually venture out on their own. It could take weeks, it could take a month or more, but they will get used to their surroundings. If this hidey isn't working out well then I wouldn't use it for their cage. Put it out during floor time instead. |

If you add more hideys, they will probably come out on their own. Did you do that yet? If not, go do it. Otherwise, lift up the fish gently and pull them out. |
