Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Hi.
I know there's about 50,000 threads about this all over the net, but I'd like to get input from some...established owners (read: not wack-jobs like the ones in Yahoo Answers). We lost our beloved shelter pig (Bugsy) a little over a month ago and my girlfriend wa devastated (ok...so was I). The next day she wanted a new pig so she wouldn't come home to an empty house. So we rescued a VERY cute 8 month old pig we named Dusty. now, after reading a whole lot on the subject, we decided a 2nd pig was needed so Dusty would not get lonely. So we adopted a 4-5 month old we named patches. She's also very cute and affectionate....to us. We keep them in seperate cages, but have also been trying floor time with both of them. For the first 20 minutes-1/2 hour, everything is fine (some low rumbling, but otherwise butt sniffing and a little mounting...yes, they are both females), but after that Patches tries to dominate Dusty, who is apparently not liking the idea. There's rumbling, chattering, some moments of thrusting and parrying.
Then it gets a little hairy, which I've read is normal. however, my girlfriend does NOT want biting or blood so she throws in the towel (literally) and seperates them. I think she's a little pre-emptive, but I can definitely see her concern. It may seem normal to those who've gone through it, but who wants their pet bleeding, right? So, anyway, I have them on my own for the week and would like to make some progress in this area. I've read up on the bathing thing and I've seen mixed results. I've already cleaned EVERYTHING in their corrall/play area so there should be no scents there. Is it safe for one person to do on their own? does it work? They're both so cute, we really want them to be able to co-exist.
Sorry for the ramble. |
