Introducing a new guinea pig - suggestions please!

Hi there, I am new to the forum and hope i am posting in the right place!

I got my son 2 guinea pigs just uner 2 years ago. they were either brothers or had the same dad but different mothers but were brought up together.

Just over a week ago one of them died suddenly and i promised to get him a friend after my holidays. My problem is that I don't want to have this happening again, and feel that i should maybe get 2 a there will be a big age difference if the new ones are young.

But, i am worried about "3's a crowd" - i know it sounds silly but i just want to do right by my original baby - i don't want him upset. he is a lovely little thing, but i am concerned that he is lonely.

what would you suggest?
do i get one? or two?

any help would be gratefully received as I have promised to go and get them tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks all, in advance

Please adopt from a shelter or rescue Pet adoption: Want a dog or cat? Adopt a pet on Petfinder

If you buy one from a pet store, you will likely have heartbreak again as they are usually sick.

You can get two more if you have enough space. How big is your cage?

One for your older boar would be fine, however if you want to get 2 boars would be ok to if you can provide them with enough space.

I think I would get only one and remember to quarentine the new guy and Adopt, don't buy from a pet store.

Re: Introducing a new guinea pig - suggestions please!

Hi there,

The cage is rather large as it is a two storey one, so plenty of room. Also there are not any shelters where i live as it is quite rural here. I am in the UK. I originally got the first 2 from my neighbour (I live on a farm), but the father died a little while ago and so she has no babies at the moment. the local pet shop has a rehoming centre within it, so i was going to check there first.
