Question What Is A Kitchen

I know a Guinea Pig kitchen is a place to put food and put down some bedding but is it also for the Pigs to do their business? I was wondering if you could train them to only go in their Kitchen area? Or is that not what a Kitchen is for. Thanks for your help.

Re: What Is A Kitchen

Pigs tend to pee/poop when they're eating. So if you put their food in the spot where you want them to go, it's possible they'll go mostly in that area, but you can't really reliably "train" a pig to only go in a certain area, ie litter box train.

Re: What Is A Kitchen

A kitchen can be anything from a tiny litter box to an entire section of a cage. People usually put donw any combination of wood bedding, carefresh, paper bedding, recycled paper/carboard pellets, newspaper, incontinant pads, puppy pee pads, etc... Then some either put the hay racks in this area or provide a mound of hay on top. Either case most kitchens need to be spot cleaned once a day and thoughrly cleaned once a week or so. Its true that guinea pigs will mostly go in the area. Mine range anywhere from 20-70% of their business in the box. Some days they go more than others...Its weird. Some people even used covered cat boxes or put pigloos in them. My guinea pigs like sleeping in their kitchen areas. Some people also put their food bowls in there. I have a tile I use to put their fresh foods on but I dont keep that in their kitchen. I hope this helps! Good luck and dont be afraid to try new stuff and/or check out the photo galleries...
