Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post?
Need some opinions please!

Hi!
I'm new to posting here but I've had guinea pigs off and on since I was 10 (I'm 32 now). Currently, I have three girls in a homemade C&C cage. We got Olivia in June, then Leah came around the fourth of July. I had them in a 3X5 cage so they'd have plenty of room but then was asked about taking Molly who had just given birth to three babies. The babies were weaned at the end of July and all had homes except Molly because no one was interested in an older piggie. So I figured I had the room and how much extra trouble could one more be? When I put Leah and Olivia together they seemed fine. Leah is a lot more timid then Olivia but they kind of stuck together and they didn't fight at all. I had Molly for a while near them but separated in the cage. Molly is a lot older then the other two. When I first put them all together Molly chased the other two out of the larger home (an overturned large cardboard box) and into the igloo homes. She didn't seem to chase them down or be picky about the food so I let it go. I figured they all had to sort it out themselves. Well, yesterday I put in some more hay and when Leah came up to eat Molly bit her and chased her off! Then she came around the other side and Olivia made a clucking sort of noise and chased her away. So Leah sat in the corner while the others ate. I moved some hay in the corner and Molly followed it but she didn't chase Leah off this time. She just sort of ate it in the corner with her. I had noticed that Olivia and Molly always made it to the veggies first and Leah would just sort of sneak a bit away from the side but I chalked it up to Leah being so timid and meek. I've never seen them attack her before. I've never had more than one guinea pig at a time before so I'm not sure when to be concerned about the behavior. Could it be just because I had put the hay in right then so it was new? Is it normal for them to sort of bicker and Leah needs to find a way to deal with it and build her status in the group? Olivia and Leah got along great at first but now it seems like Livie is picking on Leah too. I was wondering if it was a territory thing and maybe setting up another eating area would alleviate the fighting? I'm in the process of finishing a second floor deck area in the cage so maybe another hay rack, food dish and water bottle up there would help with the "this is mine go away" attitude? When I take them out they play fine together and I usually change up the cage after I clean it then put Leah in first because when I put her in last sometimes Molly chases her out of the homes. I noticed when I put her in first and the cage was different Molly will run in and hide with her.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!
Mary
