Angry Anyone else considered the rescue person?

So.... My daughter had a music camp show this morning so my mom came over to watch my 3 other children while I went. I was gone from 9-10:30 or so. I had video'd the show for my mom so we downloaded and watched it, then she left. I went to bring the garbage out back and went out my back door and there was a Coors Light box there. My husband drinks it so I didn't think anything much and went to pick it up to toss it in the recycling bin. Well, it was heavy so I opened it up and there were 2 young guinea pigs in it.

I quickly got a small cage set up to get them out of the heat and some water. They look like 2 brothers. I just can't believe someone left them on my doorstep! I called my mom and she didn't see anyone drive up. My kids didn't either. People are just amazing! It's hot and humid and there was nothing in the box at all.

Ohh! You are amazing for taking them in! Even if you can't keep them! You provided them water and food! I'm sure they are very gracious, if they could talk!! How can people do that! Seriously! Poor things!

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

It sounds like its probably someone who knows you have pigs? Do you have kids? Maybe one of their friends wanted to get rid of their pigs. that's just so sad. I'm so glad you helped them and got them out of the hot box they were in.

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

It was awesome of you to take those poor things in! If you can't keep them I hope you find great homes for those poor piggies! I have no idea how people can be so cruel! If I was ever unable to keep my pet(though it would take a very serious reason for me to give up one!) I would find it a new home, or at the very least bring it to a shelter! Leaving it out in the heat is so cruel!

Thank god they came to you! I'd say someone had an accident and ended up with some babies. Why is it so hard for some people to look after their pets responsibly? Best of luck to you and the new ones!

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

Ya know there IS a silver lining in all this. At least the person dropped them off with someone they know would know how to take care of them. Some people drop their unwanted piggies off in a field to fend for themselves or worse!

They look about the size of Skittle's baby Streak. She is about 11 weeks old now. One is long hair and one is short hair but look almost identical beside that.

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have a 3x3 cage with my 2 boys. I have to see if I can make it a 3x4. If so, maybe I'll try to keep one??? Not sure right now. I have them in my room for now to keep them away from everyone else. They have each other so they are happy. They are in a small petstore cage right now. I'll try to get some pictures of them later. My kids are all going out tonight with my husband and my dad so I can take them out in peace.

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

My guess is the person who dropped of the Guinea Pigs watched from somewhere to see when your mom left and came in so they could drop off the Guinea Pigs. Kind of like as if they were going to break in except they were just dropping off Guinea Pigs.

You are so sweet to take in them and give them fresh food and water.

I wonder if the person who dropped the brothers off knew you or knew that you had Guinea Pigs???? Because couldn't they have just dropped off the Guinea Pigs at anyone home but instead they chose yours? I find that quite strange.

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

I sold a bunch of cages on craigslist.... Plus I have 4 kids. My guess is that someone knew someone that knew someone type deal maybe? Plus, I have brought rats and guinea pigs to school before with the kids for the academic fair. We are in a quiet neighborhood with lots of families too. I don't know. Everyone in my neighborhood anyway knows I have guinea pigs and rabbits. We have a playpen in the front yard and we sit out there in the evenings we either the rabbit or a couple guinea pigs in the yard. Lots of people walk by and stop to check them out too.

Re: Anyone else considered the rescue person?

I think it is wonderful that you are so caring and have taken the boys in.
I too have become the area "Rescue-Lady".
I have had people either bring me or at times just drop off animals on my property I have become a foster parent to everything from Turtles to Horses and Squirrels!
Again it is comforting to know that we caring kin are actually still out there.

Bless you for taking them in! Good luck with your new pigs. I actually had a dream last night that someone dropped off two guinea pigs at my door, so that's pretty funny!

How can people be so cruel? I'm sure the guinea-pigs will thank you with lots of wheeks.

I have been trying to figure this out for the longest time. My mother is my number one enemy and I haven't spoken to her or seen her for about 15 years now. She is a terrible animal abuser as far as I am concerned and I hope that she doesn't have any animals now because she is too old to care for them.
Anyhow, she is EXACTLY the type of person to do this. Pure evil. When I was about 6, she took the family dog for a "long ride". I cried my heart out. Probably dropped him off on some road somewhere. Our dogs always seemed to disappear throughout the years when she got tired of them, as well as my rabbits when I was about 7. Once she even let the hamsters out, like out in the yard to fend for themselves. I am glad that when I was about 9 I convinced her that I hated pets and didn't want anymore ever, just so this wouldn't happen anymore. We still always had dogs though. I don't know why she would get them and then discard them like trash when she tired of them or thought they made her house too dirty. I hope when she dies, her hell is being tortured by animals (I know that sounds awful, but the woman has no concern for other living creatures). This is the same person that took my "blankie" from me when I was 5 years old, tore it up, put it in a metal trash can, and set it on fire. I am still traumatized.
