Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

I have 2 sows and 2 boars. And it seems that boars are more friendly than sows. My boars love to popcorning and always go near me when i'm around, always try to find out what i bring to their cage, smelling my hands when i'm cleaning up their cage and to be honest they're easier to handle.
While my sows, always hide when i'm around, only popcorning a bit when i bring them food, run away and hide inside their hidey when i'm cleaning their cage. Even when i'm bringing them food, they always look at me and wait until i'm gone then they start eating the food.

One day my online friend told me that she's having the same problem with her piggies, and then i asked her about their sex. And then she said "they're sow".

So is it their natural behaviour or is it just another coincidence?

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

Some say that boars are friendlier than sows but I have 3 sows and 2 boars, they are seperated. My 2 boars run and hide when anyone aproaches their cage. The sows are all right there to greet anyone that aproaches their cage. So I think it really just depends on the personallity of the pig.

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

My boy is more relaxed than my three girls. The girls run more where he will come right up to the side of the cage for a visit. I wouldn't say he's more friendly per se since my girls are friendly enough when you have them for lap time (except for one who isn't UNfriendly, she's just more skittish and paranoid than the others) but they seem to more on alert than he is. He will lay his head down and rest on me like a dog where the girls will cuddle up on my neck but remain more tense while making happy piggy noises.

I hope that makes sense!

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

I think it depends on the pig. One of my sows will let me pet her while she is eating and I constantly see her popcorn out of her cuddle cup. One of my boars likes to chase the vacuum around when we clean out his cage and popcorns the whole entire time the vacuum is on . I have noticed that all four of my pigs have become much more outgoing the longer i've had them. (i've only had them all since april or later of this year).

If I knew then mine wouldn't be so paranoid after living with us for a year Seriously, I think it's just their personality. She's gotten better over time, but it's just the way she is. I would continue to give your pig lap time and try hand feeding (my paranoid girl will not eat from my hand at all) and just give her time. I keep hoping that eventually my Ethel will realize that no one in the house is going to harm her and she just relaxes on her own in time.

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

I agree that the boars seem more relaxed. I know with rats, the males are always calmer than the females. I think the same seems to be true with my guinea pigs. The boys are much calmer and trusting. They sleep in the open more often and usually run to the side of the cage for attention where the girls always run and hide first. So, I wouldn't say the males are friendlier, maybe just more confident and mellow.

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

On my half I can't agree.
But like others think. It just depends on their personality.

My male with me, he's a big baby but extremely nasty to my brothers and other males of the family. He's bitten my brothers and he went for my uncle once.
My female on the other hand, is much more relaxed. She's actually much more friendly with everyone else. She likes a big fuss on herself as she purrs constantly when handled.

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

I cant agree either. I have two boars and three sows.
My boars are calm and relaxed when your not around the cage, but i go to give them thier veggies and other things they run and hide in their hidey house.

on the other hand My sows popcorn and play all day even when I'm feeding them and such, they wheek for attention too.

Re: Is it true that boars are more friendly than sows?

I also think it depends on the piggy. My two boards are more friendly than any females I've ran into, but I've also never owned one. o_o
