Incredibly strange question about pigs and music Um...Does anyone else have a pig that responds to music?
I know this sounds crazy, but Byron starts wheeting when he hears particular songs. It's a different sort of wheeting than when I am dangling treats and they are begging for food. It's almost like singing. And his ears seem to turn and move in order to take in the music. Believe me, I feel so ridiculous even typing this out, but it is true.
His favorites seem to be motown and he likes particularly "Stoned Love" from the Supremes, "I Love Her so Much it Hurts Me Bad" from the Majestics and "The Love You Save" from the Jackson 5. He does it whether he is on floor time or in the cage and hears it. I can't help wonder if there is some sort of rhythm in these songs that sets him off or what. My two other pigs don't seem to care, although one day I saw Alton perk up at one of my toddler son's toys that plays a little tune.
It's so bizarre to me, I just had to ask.

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
I dont have a pig that does that, although I actually havnt tried playing music for them yet. But I totally believe that some pigs would enjoy music, they are more intelligent than we give them credit for, like all animals, its just not an intelligence like we are used to defining the word. There are many animals that enjoy listening to music including cattle, dogs etc

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
My pigs do that-they are in my room and I love playing music, especially Fall Out Boy (slight obsession here, sorry...). Anyway, whenever the new CD starts, one of my boars, Jeter, always seems to perk up. He loves the third song, and he starts wheeking and popcorning like crazy (it does sound bizarre now that I'm typing it)! Anyway, he definitely knows the songs, and he has a good taste in music, too!

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
You know that song they play with the new Geico commercials with the stack of money that has googly eyes? Sarge runs laps. Every-single-time. At first I thought it was coincidental.
The pigger I had as a child used to sing/squeal/wheek to Christmas music.
Mogwai wheeks when one of my son's games makes some sort of noise, I can hardly hear it though so I'm not sure exactly what it's doing.
If my husband turns on his computer speakers, all the pigs grumble and go to the other side of their cage.

Smile
I am not sure if my girl's GPs love music or not but I noticed they just putting head up whenever my girl plays her violin songs to them. Guess they know she has to practice again. hehehe They are getting use to it cause they been with us for almost 3 months now. I love them singing or squeaking when foods are serve. They just dash out to you. They are so gorgeous little ones.

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
Today, we were driving home from vacation. I was sitting in the back with her, and she perked up when the song "Sideways" by Dierks Bentley comes on. She doesn't whistle but she definitely perked up and started running around her cage! It is so Cutee!!

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
Several years ago I had an aby named Peanut and I used to have the TV station FUSE on during floor time. Whenever Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, A7X, The Used, or My Chemical Romance came on she would run to the TV and start wheeting really loudly. It sounded like a siren... : )

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
Lol, that is cute! Music seems to freak mine out, no matter how quietly I start playing it, they will run for their little house! But then it's really only the third or fourth time I've tried playing actual music for them - although they seem to enjoy my singing,
!!
Certain songs, though, I can hear them kind of purring inside the house so maybe they will grow to like it,
. They will be my little alternative guineas

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
I've noticed during floor time the past few nights at my house that my 3 piggies will appear to watch TV. Some sound gets their attention I think and then all 3 line up side by side and stare at the screen for a few minutes without moving. Pretty cute and funny

Ha, that sounds so funny!
My Twix is a big Muse fan. I need to try more music with her to see what she likes. Dory, doesn't seem to care.

Re: Incredibly strange question about pigs and music
That is so cute, I was reading this and thinking the same thing, my Fred will start wheeting along with my hubby, as he's at the pc and got music playing, the hubby is singing, EVERY time he's singing, Fred's "wheeting", no matter if there is music or not. Hubby likes to just sing out his fav tunes, one of the funny things he does.......HA!

So cute! When I was younger and had a guinea pig right around the time Titanic came out, he would wheek and go crazy for "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion! SOOOO CUTE!
