Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I noticed when I stroke my American Guineas' hair the wrong way (butt to head) that he doesn't like it to much. It seems like it hurts him. He makes some pretty nasty noises. Is this really causing pain or just something he doesn't like? |

Most guinea pigs hate it when you rub their fur backwards. Just don't do it. |

Would you dare pet a cat's fur the wrong direction? some of the long hairs might not be bothered as much but if you know that he doesn't like it are you still doing it? It probably does pull against the natural fall of the fur. |

Interesting. This just happened to me with OREO. She loves her fur rubbed only ONE way LOL. Backwards got me some nasty rumbles and I did NOT know what was wrong just NOT to pet her THAT way any longer :=) |

3 of my piggies don't like thier hair being rubbed in the wrong direction, they will rumble and squeal lightly but one don't care what you do to him as long as your petting him! I think he loves attention no matter what it is. He is also my long haired pig. I dont know if he doesn't mind becuase his hair is longer and less likely to be bothered at the hair root or what it is. |

I would dare to do anything just once. . It only happened today and I wish no ill pain or uncomfortable stress upon my piggy. My Abyssinia's don't care what way you rub them. (although its a totally different hair make up) My Teddy is the same. It's just the american's. No more rubbing the wrong way... |

My teddy mixes don't like to be rubbed over most of their back where their hair is coarser, but love belly rubs if it's laptime, or just chin rubs and nose rubs. My abbysinian doesn't like his hair moved in the complete opposite direction (depending on which section is going which way), but he'll flip around and put the part he wants rubbed under my hand. He definitely doesn't like his hip rosettes messed with. I kind of think it equates to a human having his/her hair done the same way every day, and then moving it the opposite, it's a little uncomfortable. |

That is so funny, I won't just try it with the rest of my Americans, but my newest rescue Missy absolutely LOVES it. She purrs and popcorns right in my lap when I gently (very gently) rub her back the wrong way. Guess she's silly! |

He prefers I pet his nose and (gently) scratch his back. |

Yeah, my abby/peruvian mix Caramel used to hate having her rear end touched at all. I was only allowed to touch the top of her head and her ears. She was such a bossy pig. |
