Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I Have read when you separate guinea pigs that it's prefered you have a common wall the pigs could still see each other through for companionship. That makes sense to me. Does that apply to girls on one side and boys on the other? I have four males and one female and since I've had her my dominate male, Jax, started fighting with another pig, Louie. Jax and Louie have been housed together since they were young. (Since February) Now both of them are always strutting in front of the wall separating them from my female, Gina. It seems like Jax has claimed her as his and is always nipping at Louie. There has been no bloodshed but I've noticed small tufts of hair here and there in the cage. Nothing to major that has called bald spots or anything. My two other young pigs seem to be left alone. although during playtime out of the cage Jax is always mounting one of them. Any advice? Should Gina be separated from seeing the boys or should Jax be moved by himself? During play time I have Gina play by herself or with one boy at a time. Can she play with the group at all? Even being fixed? Thanx in advance. |

It would be better if you moved her into her own cage away from the boys preferably to another room. They may settle down if you did this. At no time will she be able to play with them. 4 boars and 1 sow would equal disaster whether any of them are fixed or not. If she's spayed, she could be housed with one of the males. But I wouldn't recommend letting her play with them one on one or as a group. If she's not spayed, definately don't let her play with any of the males if they are not neutered because it only takes a blink of an eye for a male to impregnate a sow. |

If I move Jax into Gina's cage will they be able to share a cage wall with the 3 remaining boys or will they eventually start displaying aggressive behavior like Jax has? |

Sorry, this is hard for me to understand so I'm asking this question. Is Jax neutered or Gina spayed? |

The boys that aren't living with Gina will probably still have problems as long as they can see her. I suggest building Jax and Gina a totally separate cage and make sure the other boys can't see them. |

Even though Gina is spayed, you should put one male with the female in a seperate room so that your other males don't wind up fighting. |
